We had three black kids in my high school, one two years ahead of me and two freshmans when I was a Senior. I never heard of any problems with them and the other kids. I ate lunch with the student ahead of me and never heard anyone telling me not to. Most of the black familys lived in Modesto and not in Turlock were I went to high school.

The 50's and 60's were tha annomily, a weird little time built upon the vagueries of the immidiate post war world. The real good old times were the previous 40 centuries of human history.

How could we forget the good old days when a minor rear-ender would make cars explode, when we didn't have seatbelts or other annoying safety devises like air bags, when driving a car was thrilling because cars were unsafe at any speed.

Ever think the reason the gays in your area being unheard of is because it was unsafe for gays to be uncloseted at that time?

Don't over-generalize from your own personal experience. Just because you never saw problem doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Wrote a paper on some of the problems in Germany under Bismarck between the Catholics and Protestants but this is something entirely different.

well, depends. for some asians, the "good old days" would be maybe 500-600 years ago, when China was the pinnacle of civilization, while you europeans were still wiping your **** with hands.

in america, however, i don't think you'd find many minorities missing the good old days. few asians-- during those same good old days, we were: a) interned; b) thought of as (evil) foreigners and sneaky; c) treated as second class citizens (hence the formation of chinatowns)...
and that's just the terminally invisible asians. the african americans, being far more visible, got shafted even worse during that time.

the reason why some people need that benadryl and sterilization is because of something called anaphylactic shock. unfortu--er, obviously, the writer didn't suffer from that.

We played king of the hill on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites and when we got hurt, mother pulled out the 48 cent bottle of mercurochrome and then we got our butt spanked. Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics and then mother calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.

some people still get spanked for that, and the parents don't sue. as for the mercurochrome, i haven't the foggiest what that is, but it sounds toxic.

Mom invited the door to door salesman inside for coffee...and Dad drove a car with leaded gas.

mm... leaded gas... leaded paint... tastes like popcorn...
and door-to-door salesmen, by and large, don't exist anymore, for a variety of reasons, one of which is that there's a profound lack of trust these days.

honestly, it's been my opinion that most of these overly moralistic email forwards are complete and total tripe, not worth really thinking too much over. it's like spam, only without the added titillation of "YOUNG BLONDES TAKE BIG VIAGRAS TO INCREASE THEIR BUST SIZE!".

Gays were unheard of back then even though they were everywhere in society. They just didn't want to get killed or beatened for affirming who they really were.
