Don't mess with the Frogs.
Empire of the Ants was also on the list, just waiting to destroy any attempt of yours to argue with me!

In 1977 my parents bought me George Lucas' original Star Wars novel.
Can you still get this? It gives away a lot (Darth Vader falling in a lava pit and all that).

As long as Lucas was not allowed within 30 miles of the srciptwriting process then epIII has a chance to be OK. Otherwise it will be a "visually stunning but otherwise pointless sequel".

Go to Barnes and Noble.
I think it's bundled with the OT novelizations though.

lucas probably writes dialogue with one of those 1-inch-diameter thick pencils that kids get in first grade to work on their handwriting.
or, in the fourth grade, when they forget their pencils.

Howabout this?
Knife at sd.net

The begining fight scene and the political manuverings durring the bulk of the movie, set up a battle at the end. Palpatine, through his minion Dooku sets the Sepretist movment up for a fall. The Sepertist Movment is realing from a defeat at the begaining of the movie and makes a despreate attack on the planet ? (Alderaan?) Palpatine sends in the Jedi and the Grand Army of the Republic to deal with the sepertists once and for all.........
A massive formation of Trade Federation Battleships with escorting vessels of all types jump out of hyperspace above the target planet. They exchange fire with stationary weapons emplacements of the system and recieve limited damage by denfending fighter groups.
The Sepertists overwelm the defenders, and proceed to disgorge an assualt force to the surface, where a lossing battle is shown. A force of Jedi lead by Mace Windu are on hand with the defenders and a desperate counter attack is shown that comes close to colapsing the enemy lines, but in the end, fails.
With a flash, a large fleet of Acclamators and their escorting Victories enter the system and vector in on the Sepertists. Areosprites, Naboo N1's, and Z95 Headhunter boil out of the hangers of the Republic ships as the enemy formation turns to face the coming vessels.
The two opposing formations of fighters clash then break up into one on one fights while they weave in and out of their larger brothers, all the while flashes of blaster fire streak across the battlefield.
The two fleets meet and start to duke it out. The commander of the Republic fleet, Comadore Tarkin, orders his ships to commence fire from maximun range and continues to close in on the Trade Fed ships. While the Sepertists have more ships than the Republic, the Sepertist have converted war ships while the Republic has dedicated warships. The Sepertists try to out flank the Victories and pound on the troop transports while Tarkin punches a hole through the battle line so that the belegured defenders on the planet can recieve reinforcements.
As the two fleets meet, a lone transport drops out of hyperspace and vectors in on the Command ship of the Republic forces. Once docked, Lord Dooku fresh from his battle with Obi Wan and goating Anakin into thinking that Obi has killed both Padme and Anakin's unborn son, proceeds to the bridge and give Comadore Tarkin orders from the Supreme Chancilor. These orders revel that Dooku is now an official member of the Chancilors cabnet and is in overall charge of the Republic forces. Tarkin, already deep into the Chancilors conspiricy, brings Dooku up to speed on the situation.
The Republic forces crush the Sepertist space forces and commence with landing Clone troopers and the Chancilors new Stormtroopers to relieve the Jedi and the defenders on the planet. The half defeated defenders cheer at the sight of landing troops and charge the Sepertists. The battle rages, but the tide has turned and slowly the Republic troops push back the enemy until at last they break and the are masacured by the clone troopers and the newer Stormtroopers.
The battle is over, and Count Dooku hands Comadore Tarkin his final orders from the Chancilor, then takes a shuttle down to the planet to witness the end. Tarkins orders are to destroy the Jedi and all defenders on the planet.
The Jedi were ravished by the battle with the Sepertist. Mace Windu assembles the last of his battle weary warriors as a lone shuttle lands not too far away from their position. Smiles of victory vanish as Count Dooku, Lord of the Sith exits the shuttle with a score of new and fresh Stormtroopers. Knowing what was to follow by this betrayal, the Jedi immeadiatly commence battle with the Stormtroopers who try to swarm the Jedi.
Dooku faces Mace and the two Masters commence an epic battle to be remembered down through the ages. At its end, Dooku lays defeated and dead and Mace again trys to rally his Jedi but to no avail. The betrayal of the Republic forces has sealed their doom and no one, Jedi or ally of them, lives to tell the tale.
After the battle, on Coruscant, Supreme Chancilor Palpatine shows the Senate holo pics of the Jedi attacking the Republic forces and declares them traitors in league with the now defunked Sepertist Movment. Decrying an attempt of the Jedi to wrestle power away from the Senate and take the reines of power, the Supreme Chancilor disbans the Jedi Order and issues arrest warrents for all suvivors.
Then, with the Sepertist movment crushed and a loyal army behind him, Palpatine declares himself Emperor and vows to scourge the galaxy of the rest of the Sepertists and their Jedi Overlords to restore the galaxy to one of peace and prosperity. At his side, his new Champion, Lord Darth Vader who was once a Jedi but saw the corrupt and tratorous actions of his former order and has left them to serve the galaxy and his emperor.

heres a prediction, we know Vader falls into the lava pit at the hands of Obi Wan, right? My guess is that during that fight Vader is on the verge of winning when Amadala sees what he has become and.....you know whatever, flicks the switch to the lava pit trap door. etc
A simlar moment to ROTJ when Vader kills Palaptine, all facial close ups and tortured expressions.

EP1 was so kiddy and cute that I never bothered watched EP2.
I mean, millions of people dying in a war - and how much blood shown? A tiny stab wound when Obi Wan's mentor gets stabbed.
Compare to Star Wars - Luke's uncle and aunty toasted in the desert, that guy's arm getting chopped off - much more gritty.
So if EP3 actually has a bit of believable violence, it might be an improvement.
As for the stale acting bit, I've heard Ewan MacGregor interview where he stated that all of his EP1 appearances were filmed twice - Lucas' appreciated the acting was stinko bad, so had to coach him to get more out of him. I dread to think what those original rushes were like, because I think he's the worst actor in the movie.
So as far as EP3 goes... I think I'll pass.

So maybe this is where Lucas went wrong!
Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford landed their parts in the original largely because they were an unknown quantity. Not sure about Carrie Fisher - but those are the actors with the highest amount of screen time, the main and supporting actors in the first series. They didn't have a reportoire, a "method" of acting - they just did what seemed natural.
The line up for EP1 and EP2 had a whole host of stars... but what might have been a smarter move was to hire actors who could act in a blue screen production movie, rather than big names for whom the whole idea was an alien and arcane process that went against their existing experience.
Instead, Lucas hands out roles to conventional recognized actors - and then wonders why the reviews are so bad.

yep, thats what i was trying to say, Sci-Fi needs special effects but a film needs realistic character interaction.
Macgregor, Neeson etal can't have suddenly become bad actors overnight? Any film that can make the great Samual L Jackson look like a stiff has got major problems IMO

dd: i know. luke's hand getting chopped off was cool. no blood.
star wars, now that i think about it, is surprisingly sterile for the amount of violence it has.
perhaps because it doesn't show any red, it manages to get away with so much.

Though most of the "important" deaths (at least those "mildly violent") will likely happen off-screen, I'm somewhat looking forward to this one.

I don't know about that. They are going to have to pull out all the stops for the final duel between Vader & Obi-Wan.

It's going to be interesting to see how they stop Vader/Anakin from levitating out of that volcanic pit... or maybe that's how he survives.
Now that's why I call a spolier!
