They actuall sold PB&J on rye sandwiches at the cafeteria in the middle school I attended back in the seventies.
Yes, I tried them -- they weren't bad.

Peanut butter is certainly popular in the UK, but personally I don't like it anymore.
Maybe I'm growing old or maybe they've started loading it with additives - but it doesn't taste as good.
I've tried Dutch PB ("Pinda Kaas") and that was really good. Homemade is tops.
But the stuff in the supermarket just makes my tastebuds cringe. Anyone else noticed this?

I don't think I've ever seen your tastebuds cringe, Cruddy. I'll try to pay more attention.

Let me put it another way;-
Has any long term consumer of UK peanut butter noticed a change in the taste, ie it tastes bloody horrible now compared to what it used to?

I do love the crunchy. My wife is from Buffalo and their grocery stores up there have loose peanuts and grinders so you can make your own peanut butter. Very tasty; I wish they did that here.

Maybe you are buying the wrong kind. I know alot peanut butter has additives or syrup or all sorts of other crap in it. The only good peanut butter is the kind with only peanuts in it.

Tastes as good as it used to.
As I've grown up, I've progressed from smooth to crunchy. I get the impression those still on the smooth are the same who still want the "little bits" taken out of orange juice.
Just eat it on its own...the stuff I got is 96% peanuts.

I like smooth peanut butter, yet I always want my orange juice AS PULPY AS POSSIBLE! Peanut Butter as a whole, though, is overrated...

If you are buying peanut butter in the UK read the label. It should give the contents as peanuts, palm oil and salt. If it has anything else in there then don't buy it.

So maybe it is not just me growing old - maybe they have legislated new additives that make it taste bad.
