???
There have been more Anglo-French conflicts than the Norman invasion of 1066, you know? The Normans were just as much Vikings as they were French anyway.
I expect Laz was referring to the Battle of Agincourt, where the English longbowmen totally kicked the ass of the French knights. Although God knows there are plenty of other examples to pick from too.

It was a reference to Agincourt, Crecy and the domination of the English longbowmen.
See my point? Hur, hur hur.

The black-red-white colour combination in that flag somehow reminds me of the Nazi swastika.

With all the fighting in Europe over the past 2000 years there's been more than enough spanking going on for everyone to get their full share several times over.

The longbow wasn't English. It was Welsh.
As for those battles, they made no difference at all in the long run.
So much for this "domination" myth.
On that basis, the English flag should consist of a bulldog being kicked back over the English channel.

We don't need to say anything about the French. We just make the Eurostar trains arrive at Waterloo.

Tell your French housemate that the station was named after the nearby bridge over the Thames - and that was named after that obscure village in Belgium, over a century before Eurostar was even dreamed up.
You can also tell your French housemate that the new high speed Eurostar will terminate at King's Cross.

Tsk, we should definitely rename the Gare du Nord into "Gare d'Orléans" or something. Just to welcome the Rosbifs like they deserve

What the bugger is your problem, sunbeam? I'm looking for a better interpretation of English history than a vague symbol supposedly representing some fictitious Turkish Christian superhero, and at the same time provide a spot of light entertainment by introducing some juicily OTT macabre imagery to it, whilst simultaneously appealing to the jingoistic attributes that flags are intended to promote.
If you'd read any of the many historical threads I've posted here and elsewhere, I think you'd gain some understanding that I'm well aware that we lost the 100 years war. Hence the fact that I never claimed we won. Or the fact that I never claimed the longbow was invented by the English. It was certainly used by them.
In doing so, you appear to have marked me down as some sort of raging ultra-nationalist. Yes- I'm very serious that I think the Union Jack is a pile of poo, but permit me a spot of fun in the process, would you?
Jesus. The one thing you can bet about Poly is that any attempt to inject a spot of humour will end up getting some pedant on a mission.

I'm going to start breaking down my posts, giving clear indications of when I start and stop being serious (Laz is being semi-comical at this point) so that the socially-challenged can understand when not to get all "Daily Mail" on my arse.
Then again (He's turning serious now) I'm not sure I can be arsed.
