Chirac and Blair kiss and make up; fuming Bush calls Blair, "two-timing wh*re."
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Chirac, Blair make up over Iraq
Thursday, June 12, 2003 Posted: 3:42 AM EDT (0742 GMT)
PARIS, France (AP) -- French President Jacques Chirac and British Prime Minister Tony Blair have tried to bury their differences over the war in Iraq, agreeing that the two nations have a common destiny.
"Whatever differences there have been over Iraq, I have no doubt at all that it is vitally important for the future of both our countries, and for the future of Europe, that Britain and France work closely together," Blair told reporters after a dinner on Wednesday night.
Blair assured Chirac of Britain's commitment to the European Union despite the announcement Monday that his country was not prepared to begin using the European currency.
"Britain's future lies in full-hearted membership in the EU," he said.
The meeting at the presidential Elysee Palace was the first solely between the two leaders since they met in early February and Chirac refused to cave in to intense pressure from Blair to join the U.S.-led coalition against Iraq.
France led nations opposed to the war and seeking more time for U.N. inspectors trying to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Chirac and Blair have since made clear their wish to bury the hatchet and move ahead.
On Wednesday, they washed down their dinner with Champagne, Chevalier-Montrachet 1997 and a 1986 Chateau Margaux.
While burning international issues were programmed into discussions, the Mideast took on a new dimension with the upsurge in violence there Wednesday.
Chirac and Blair joined in denouncing their "horror" at the Palestinian suicide bombing on a Jerusalem bus that killed 16 people. They said the peace plan known as the road map must be followed.
No mention was made of the Israeli retaliatory attacks that left nine people dead.

I have no opinion on this. Just politics as usual as far as I'm concerned. 'Nuther photo-op...

"Chirac and Blair have since made clear their wish to bury the hatchet and move ahead."
When I first read this I thought they wanted to bury the hatchet in each other's head.

Bush has also been trying to mend fences with France. There's no more political gain to be made by poking a stick at the French so why bother? Given the typical American attention span, I imagine he'll pull it off too.
I mean, hating France is so, like, 15 minutes ago, ya know?

At least, during the times of Fashoda, our attention span was longer and our hatred was more intense.
Aaaaah, the good old days

nah, there's probably some dumbass cracker somewhere in America right now standing on a street corner, holding a sign that says "Boycott France". Such hatred and ignorance never goes away, it just becomes less popular.

Shouldn't that be "French-kiss and make up"? (I'm sorry, I should have said "Freedom-kiss" )
