9/11 The Movie
Guess all the major film publishers are champing at the bit at the chance to make this motion picture epic.
I just wonder how long it will be? How long is a reasonable time to respect the feelings of the relatives and American public?
I guess we will see a film around about 2010? Think the first version will be pretty tame though, no realistic footage aka Saving Private Ryan. The first film will set the ball rolling and I guess by 2015 there will have been a string of them from all different perspectives (including the one with all the action and special effects).
Think the first publisher of such a film will risk a backlash from the American public on such a sensative topic though.
What do you think? Who would get the role of Bin Laden?

Someone British, so my guess would be either Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman or David Suchet.

If the US can actually kill OBL or prove he is dead then the first version could start filming within a couple of years. It will be very much a gung-ho patriotism version portraying decent americans versus despicable rag-heads though.
Art Malik would do a good OBL but taking the part might be tantamount to saying "please assassinate me", whoever took it on.

I reckon Jeff Goldblum could do an excellent Bin Laden.
Whether he would want to or not is another question.

Bin Laden will be played by himself (i.e interposed footage) or by CGI.

... couldn't he or his family then claim royalties for breach of privacy and image copyright?
I don't think for a minute they would win in court - but it might give more publicity to an evil cause.

I don't really think there should be a movie.
But, on the bright side, I won't have to listen to idiots compare 9/11 to some Die Hard or Schwarzenegger flick all the time.

Suchet has already played your avatar, so having him play Bin Laden would be confusing...

Didn't Tom Clancy already write a book about it ?
(Even before 9/11, about an attack with an airplane on the white house.)

Yeah, Japanese kamakazi into the Capitol.
I really hope that 9/11 is left to serious documentaries, but I'm sure you're right, and Hollywood will eventually get around to making a movie about it. If so, I just hope Spielberg gets it.

Nah, I would not be a love story. Any 9/11 movie would be like those 60's and 70's war movies, with huge assemble casts that try to recreate the whole event. Most liekly the Hijackers would be namesless, probably not big starts at all, and Osama would only be seen either int eh beginning of the movie (building up), and at the end. I also think moving beyond the first few days afterwards would be very unlikely.

They are making two (!) films about the President's actions and whereabouts on the day. Both even have the same guy as GWB, Timothy Bottoms from the comedy series "That's my Bush!". Both are written by the same guy though, so it's not that strange...

Hollywood always makes crap movies from historic events:
Pearl Harbor, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's list...

Pearl Harbor sucked, yes.
I can understand people not liking Saving Private Ryan, but I enjoyed it.
But Schindler's List? Crap? Wtf?

i think we'll see a movie (or miniseries) devoted to the brave passangers of the one that went down in PA.

I have a film documentary by 2 French Filmmakers (they were actually brothers!, which led to a lot of emotional outpourings as they had gotten seperated during the blasts) whom were filming the life of a NYC Probationary Firefighter, coincidentally, at the Engine Company that covered the WTC area. They were actually in the tower next door when the first collapsed then on street when the second collapsed. Very stunning footage and real-time emotional outpourings. It shows the first plane hitting the tower.
Just wanted to share this, it was aired a few months after the fact, makes you really stop and think.
Peace

9-11!
The untold story of Bill and Jeff, from the 87th floor
(Open, two men in WTC sipping coffee and looking out the windows. After a beat, JEFF speaks)
J: Nice day, eh Bill?
B: Yeah. I've seen better, though.
J: (sips coffee) I guess. Traffic was pretty bad, wasn't it?
B: Yup. (Sip)
J: Hey, where is everybody?
B: It's break time. They probably all went to get a snack, or something.
J: Everyone? That's a little odd...
B: (sip) You're telling me--wait, is that a plane?
J: Are you kidding? It's Tuesday.
B: What does that matter?
J: It doesn't. Oh look, a plane...
B: That's what I just said! It's getting kinda close, isn't it?
J: Nah. They're just messin' with us. Hold on, I need more coffee.(Exit Jeff)
B: You're probably right. He's gonna turn, for sure.(sips)mmm...nope. Oops.
J enters) What's this?
B: Oh, the plane didn't turn, that's all.
J: Well, darn. At least it was the other tower, eh?
B: You said it. Should we tell someone?
J: Nah, I'm sure someone's already phoned it in. Besides, I'm on break -- I don't want to do any more work than I have to.
B: Point taken.(sips)
J: (sips)I know I've said it before, but this is damn good coffee.
B: You better believe it.
J: Say, is that another plane?
B: I hope not. That last one was strange enough, thank you.
J: No, I think it is.
B: Alright, alright. Five bucks says this one's turning, though.
J: You're on.(sips)
B: (sips)
J: Doesn't look like it...
B: Don't jinx it. He's still got time.
J: Ah...nope. I win.
B: Damn. Well, a bet's a bet.(gives Jeff $5)
J: So, where'd it hit this time?
B: Looks like a few floors down...ah, Marketing, I think.
J: Really? Dang, I was gonna have lunch with Stacy today, and that's where she works...
B: No foolin'? Stacy?
J: Yeah. I'm a real ladies man, that's for sure.
B: Lucky bastard. She shut me down at last year's christmas party.
J: That happens.
B: Say, it's getting kind of smoky...should we leave?
J: Nah. Break lasts for five more minutes.
B: Good point.(sips)
(Fade to black, red lettering)
To be continued...
God, I'm a bastard.

There'll probably be an epilogue with the invasion of Afghanistan and/or the death of OBL (if he's actually known to be dead at the time).
