Blitzkrieg - Awakening the Giant!
Blitzkrieg
Hello everybody!
I've never been a real 'member' of the scenario league, but I would love to join you guys. My first contribution to the league, is
as seen above, a scenario which I'm currently working on - 'Blitzkrieg - Awakening the Giant'. It begins in June 1941 ( when ww2 really became ww2 ) with the invasion of Mother Russia.
It's ment to be a multiplayer scenario suitable for PBEM-ing. The scenario is still very undone, but I have a good draft that I'm posting here. It's not a very revolutionising scenario, it's merely a scenario made to, hopefully, amuse the players . It's gigamap and the civs are, in playing order:
Imperial Japan
Axis
Neutrals
USA
British Commonwealth
Nationalist China
Soviet Union
+ Sinkiang (Neutral China) (Barbaric civ)
I've spent over 6 moths up to now in more or less silence, so it's funny to finally show my work to someone else. I've made most of the graphics myself and that can take quite some time!! If you guys could be so kind to open the sav-game and give me some feedback, that would be extremely useful. Feel free to comment on anything: graphics, unit balanceing, city placements...Anything! Please give me the last push over the finishing line
Thanks for taking the time!
Kobra (aka Eivind IV at CivFan)

You're completeley right about Guam. I didn't notice that one World record in responding to threads BTW. I don't think it took you more than 50 seconds. Congrats
And for some reason Sinkiang controlls Tibet
It's all taken care of! Thank you, FiGu! When will you Finish Front be ready?

It begins in June 1941. As said in the opening, the scenario is far (well, not really that far ) from done. I still have to fix little details like that
And yes, they did control the Marshalls...

Oh, and Finnish Front is... coming soon....
And a question, which map are you using? im maybe intrested to use it in my next scenario. ill begin working on it after Finnish Front is done.
Put one Infantry to guard Luleå, The axis can take it in one turn
and a suggestion : put rostov instead of Krasnodar, it was more important during the war.

Some minors details I like/dislike
1) I like both the map and terrain graphics
2) The Russian citiziens appear as the citiziens of the ancient age in Civ2
3) You combine English names of cities (example: Mexico City, Peking) with native names of cities (Moskva)
4) If I recall it correctly, the Yakolev-7 was used much more than the Yakolev-9, and was nearly as dreaded as the former... Have you though in changing Yakolev-9 with Yakolev-7?
5) Alll civs appear to be able to build German ingenuity
6) I don't like the red brackground - I've some problems while reading the text boxes

Looks groovy!
There can never be too many WW2 scenarios!
I'm sure this is going to be a great scenario once the beta tweaks are done!
Darn good work, Kobra!

Thanks for responding and thanks for all the nice words!
All notes are taken into account, yaroslav! I'll se what I can do with it!
Could I ask for another favour? Could a kind sole make the title.gif into a working title? The Painshop Pro 8 certainly won't cooperate with me
And to the kind sole: While you're at it, could you also transform the bmp's to gif's?

Urm, you've missplaced Melbourne: it should be at 233,197 Port Morseby should also be moved to 238,142
BTW, the population of Derby wasn't more then a few hundred in 1941: you may want to leave it out
(I'd use the city this frees up to either add Adelaide (which is where Melbourne currently is), or Johannesburg, South Africa.)
There was also a rather strategically important road running through central Australia from Adelaide to Darwin, you may want to add this as well (there was a rail road from Adelaide to Alice Springs as well)

Some first impressions:
*The year is 4000 bc.
*It's immensely difficult to destroy even a non fortified artillery in a city. You might want to make it a little easier. Soviet infantery fell by the millions at the beginning of barbarossa. Now not even 4 veteran tanks can destroy an infantery in a city on Prince level.

If you play smart you start the invasion with airial bombardment to gain total air superiority. That was also crusial in the beginning fase of Barbarossa

But all those cities are guarded by fighters, and those fighters can also not be killed by bombers.
So the cities can not be taken.

It´s called Mexico Distrito Federal. Similar to Washington D.C.
But you should use: Mexico D.F.

This is new to me. I have no problem taking Odessa, Lvov, Minsk and Kaunas in one turn, after heavy bomber assaults followed up by stuka attacks and then the panzer. I'll check into it.
The hitpoints and firepower stats are copied and based on kobayashi's ZWK scenario. I find them more realistic, as battle results isn't always about best equipment But I'll check into it...

Just to be even more native, could I name it México D.F.?

For those interested, here is the latest update. Some minor and some more or less major changes.
* The 'awful' red screen is removed in favour of a soothing light blue one
* Germany starts with some more panzers and bombers.
* German Capitol Ship in Tripoli moved to Taranto.
* Removed one Russian fighter in Odessa.
* Derby razed, Johannesburg created.
* Therefor, the Wellington formerly in Derby now moved to Darwin.
* Port Moresby moved to 238, 142.
* Renamed Melbourne to Adelaide
* Railway from Adelaide to Darwin created
* Brasilia removed. Cuiabá created instead
* Peking renamed to Beijing
* Mexico City renamed to México D.F.
* Citizen in some cities from all civs have been given more luxeries.
* German ingenuity removed completely
* Russia given one Capitol Ship in Arckangelsk + one sub + one landing craft
* Murmansk now has a sub
* Lhasa is now Neutral
* Unit shields are on place
All in all I have made several small changes, but I don't think any of you care, so I will spare you of the rest
And once again, thanks everyone for responding and beeing so kind. Please continue to do so, I could need all the help I could get.

The RR only made it half the way from Adelaide to Darwin - it stoped at Alice Springs. From there on everything had to be trucked to Darwin. The Alice Springs-Darwin rail link won't be complete untill Feburary 2004!

Keep up the good work! Pssst...you can get a 'civilized' geography lesson by looking at Case's 'Battle of Australia'.

Nah, the snakes will kill the crocs the minute they get off the train
...Failing that, the crocs will just end up lurking in the Todd River, which runs through the centre of Alice Spings:

By the way of blitzkrieg....
I have a question. It seems that guy who invented the idea of it or at least one of the better German leaders during ww2 was Guderian, right? His surname sounds so Armenian... Does anybody know something more about him?

Maybe this is just an error in my Civ2 game, but it says that the year is 4000 BC when I play your scenario. Also, the aircraft have almost no movement. You need to have an aircraft carrier unit or those Japanese planes on the lone islands are useless.

It's not an error, it's just one of the many little things I have to change.

Notes taken.
Thanks! There has been no progress the last three days, as I am in Copenhagen now. I'll probably be home tomorrow or the day after. I just have to check the town some more. Cheep cheep beer

There's heaps of books available on Guderian - after Rommel he seems to be the most 'popular' German General.
...but I hate all Nazi Generals so I haven't read any of them and can't help you
