I started my second job today..... it COMPLETLEY changed my view of the world......
I started my first two real jobs this week....... one is a part time computer maintenance guy at two macy's store(since I spend most of the time browsing online-the $12 an hour is great).
I need more money........ so I took a SECOND job....... im working for a furniture company......moving furniture all day for $7.00 an hour.....
It changed my view of the work-force and our country by allowing me to personally realize how much manual labor sucks.
I'm either a die hard capitalist(lazy ########! if I can do the work so can you! yey free market!) or a die hard socialist(im busting my ### while you fat cats do nothing and get paid 10x as much as me!) im not sure which though.

If you think you should bust your ass to make some cash, so you can either (1) buy stuff or (2) save it, so you can become better educated and get a better job where you don't have to bust your ass, and posibly even start your own business so, if you do bust your ass, you're doing it (mostly) for yourself, you're a capitalist.
If you think everyone who can should bust their ass so you can support not only yourself, but everyone else who cannot bust their asses, then you're a socialist.

I didn't post a thread when I got a job that paid me 5€/hour, in which I had some working days starting at 12, ending at 12.

Work is hard if you're a grunt, and there is someone up there making lots of money off your back. It definitely seems like a very closed club up there too...stinks of oligarchy...so hence I veer to the left

Is this new view mean you are going to finally start touching yourself? Because seriously, I don't see your "new" view "complete" unless it changed you in that way too. I'm sure many others agree with me on this issue.

I'd just be pleased if someone would employ me. So far, it has been determined that I not good enough to push trolleys around Morrisons car park or stand behind a till at WHSmith's gawking at people.

Welcome to the real world Paul, despite the claim that we have an economy that has survived the worst of a global recession and is trying to utilise new skill, it is crap...we are in the height of high unemployment and underutilisation of the workforce which is massaged and covered up by the government...don't feel bad about it (easier said than done), it is ****.

I think I have way better idea of what unemployment is like than you do Provost.

I've had 7 months of unemployment and I quite freely admit, it is soul destroying...I never want to be out of work again...

I've had about the same period, plus parents in much worse.
Work isn't fun, nothing much you can do it about it.

Vesayen,
You have to work smart to avoid exploitation. Better get a college loan and some good education it you don't want to be exploited. You can still be a communist after you get trained though

I honestly don't mind work, once I get stuck into something and know what I am doing and have a bit of responsibility, I am fine...although I don't like been 'watched' in my work...I like autonomy...

Somehow I don't think this was fully legal...
and 5€ net isn't all that bad (depending on the work, and yes I've done dishes for less aswell)

Stick with it. Hard work is the best work. Sitting around pushing pencils and feeling like you've done something is a vanity.
In a few weeks you'll feel the difference. In a few months you'll think you're strong. In a few years you actually will be...
That feels good.

No ****. I've had 3 summer jobs that involved that sort of thing. The physical exertion wasn't that bad; the boredom is the worst part. After three months you're at the point where you start to get aggressive. When I was 18 I practically started a fistfight with a lift driver for no reason whatsoever (literally...just wanted to punch somebody).
I have enormous respect for anybody who can stand to do that sort of thing their entire life. If it were me, I'd be makin' a quick trip to the gun store and buying a one-way ticket out.
