as someone who routinely buys old games for $10 or less i can hardly find fault with that.
I will say its available for $20 or less at most bookstores. But the HP books all go into paperback not to long after theyve been out, and you will probably be able to find even that on discount somewhere.

I didn't think the book was funnier. It had its light moments, but the overall darkness of the book made it less funnier (but better) than the others.

I think my favorite new character is Luna Lovegood
Spoiler:
I LOVED the chapter in which they decide to go public using the Quibbler... I thought it was brilliant! Also, is it just me, or are there major hints that Luna is going to be Harry's next romantic interest? Although Rowling gave her some dialogue which showed she deserved a bit of that reputation, I also felt she wrote the character in a way that showed she was quite clearly intelligent, and understated. Oh man, I can't wait...

mono, re: Luna
Spoiler:
I think Luna will go after Ron. She seemed to fancy him, laughing really hard at his jokes and getting all crush-like on him. Ron will go out with Luna, making Hermione jealous

That's ridiculous! I took that to mean she was being sarcastic, not silly in a crush! I disagree completely. At the end, Rowling CLEARLY sets up a connection which I feel supports my original hypothesis.
Spoiler:
Remember that she acted just as interested in Harry, I think even moreso with Harry. She made a point of going up to him & saying she believed him and such... I think that's where it's gonna go. Either way I think she's a tremendous character. And I really want to find out if that creature she and her father are after really exists or not...

No way, I totally disagree! I stand by my hypo, 100%, especially:
Spoiler:
Harry wouldn't go out with someone he thought was a flake. Ron, OTOH, hasn't had much success with the ladies, and seems desperate. Luna was being 100% true, and not sarcastic at all with Ron. Furthermore, like Cho with Harry early on, Luna said goodbye only to Ron, when Ron, Hermione, and Harry were together and Luna came over.
Needless to say, I think you are wrong!

I think that creating a cho/harry and luna/ron parallel is not what's going to happen - I think that it would be a bit too obvious and, dare I say it? plebian. Also, does Harry think she's a flake by the end of the book? I'm not convinced he does. In their conversation at the end they truly treat each other as equals. I quote: "for some reason he did no mind Luna talking about Sirius [Hmmmm I wonder why!]? as he watched her go, he found that the terrible weight in his stomach seemed to have lessened slightly" (864). There is a purpose to these lines, and I revel in that purpose.
I think alot of it depends on how the school reacts to Ron being a good Quidditch player and being a prefect though - he definitely moved up in the world in this book. He's no lackey!

Spoiler:
Still... Luna with Harry doesn't mesh, doesn't work, and I don't think it'll happen. She's barkin' mad, and Harry isn't going to date someone like that. She'll be a good friend, no doubt... but if she dates anyone, it'll be Ron, mark my words. Harry will date someone cuter and smarter

I can tell you didn't like Luna as much as I did... She is, as we in the profession like to call ourselves, a 'space cadet'. Her intelligence comes out in... odd ways. You don't think that it'll mesh or work, but tell me, what did you think of Harry and Cho Chang's odds at the end of the fourth and the very beginning of the fifth? Also, Ron and Hermione act like a married couple already... For what that's worth. Oh, and wasn't it great, when Harry was confused about why Cho was spazzing out, and Hermione was explaining to him EXACTLY what Cho was going through??? I loved that scene!

Spoiler:
As SOON as Cho walked in, I KNEW she was going to be Harry's love interest. I'm 100% honest. After all, the stomach pains, come on. It was obvious. When Cho arrived, she was it... and she was... and then she wasn't . I don't get nearly the same vibe from Luna. I liked her, but she wasn't Potter g/f material

From the second their now famous Valentine's day date began, I knew that the relationship was going to crash and burn. They were having no fun, being awkward, and I could just sense it. Well, I suppose we'll see what happens... Oh, and remind me, who was Ginny dating by the very end?

I'm gonna have to side with Imran in this discussion.
Spoiler:
The potential romance between Ron and Hermione that was all over book IV was completely ignored in this one. Does this mean that their interest is gone, or is it still waiting to pop up in VI or VII?

Yea, you could see that nosedive coming a mile off, but I was in denial for a couple of pages before I finally admitted that it couldn't be going anywhere good.

The problem with Ron and Hermione in the last book is that Ron has a lack of confidence and courage to ask her out. In this book, he is built up quite a bit (Prefect, Quidditch team) to rectify that, I believe. Meanwhile Hermione seems to be waiting for him. I don't believe she's seriously interested in the moody Victor.
With Harry and Cho - it is just like Cho said - she needs to talk about Cedric and work things out. She is very in touch with what's going on. Harry on the other hand is a typical teenage boy in this deptmartment - clueless. Readers would be up in arms if they got together too quickly after Cedric's death anyways. I suspect Harry will learn to make better use of Hermione's female insights next time around to fix things with Cho.
And one more: Ginny and Neville! This book also built up both of these characters. His parents were attacked by Death Eaters - she was possessed by Tom Riddle. A perfect match if I every saw one!

Spoiler:
Ron and Hermione is still bubbling under the surface. You could see it in some aspects (remember when Hermione kissed Ron on the cheek before his first game?
I also loved what they did with Ginny and Nevile. Nevile, especially. Both of them are going to be important in the next 3 books. There is definetly going to be something where Nevile avenges his parents and captures Lestrange. Also, I think there is significance in the fact that he was one of the people who COULD have fulfilled the prophecy.

I totally agree that Neville and Ginny are developed extremely well. I wanted to read more about Ginny, and I've ALWAYS felt that Neville had an inner strength that we would eventually see.

Spoiler:
Ginny is gonna end up with Harry... just you wait. It'll set up a Harry being Ron's brother-in-law type of thing . She's smart, she's strong-willed, and apparently, she's cute (she's had two b/f's)... what's not to like?

She got over Harry! Plus, I'm sure Harry will, in the future, thing of her more like a sister than a romantic interest...
Wishful thinking bud.

Not at all. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it exactly unfolded like that. I think the ending (with Ron's statement on the train) indicates some foreshadowing.
Oh, and:

Brilliant writing.
Well, remember it was supposed to be Draco who made that up, speaking of which:
Spoiler:
How COOL was the end scene with Draco being all pissed that Harry sent Lucious to Azkaban . Though I wonder who is guarding it, since the dementors have joined Voldemort?

Oh yeah, that was great, and I was wondering the same thing myself.
My favorite moments:
Spoiler:
Percy's letter to Ron, encouraging him to dissasociate with Harry.
Luna Lovegood, Rita Skeeter and Hermione appearing at the tavern - what a combination of characters!
The Chapter Eyes of the Snake or something like that.
Neville's development.
Dumbledore giving Fudge a hard time.
The D.A. meetings.
Fred and George turning the hallway into a swamp!!!
