I was talking about those fundamental things that really differentiate us from the Far Northern Cousins - single movement, single production. The alternatives to which, as you know, were inserted into the game by Sid for people with short attention spans.

No, Hydey, for people with attention spans even shorter than yours.

No, 2x production was put in to the game after 6 playtesters killed themselves from boredom after one too many 1x1x games.

My friends and I play Saturdays or Sundays network MP games in my office. Sometimes we go to my friends cottage near Belgrade and take along four to five computers/laptops and a hub and play for two days.
Our preference is a large map with max civs (seven), deity level and restless tribes. For the majority of you who play with no AI civs, restless tribes is for the benefit of the AI not us, because they tend to die off rather quickly with raging hordes. By the way, we play no civ restart to be able to exploit the capture capital split civ feature. Of course, an AI civ would have to disappear first.
Since not all of my friends are equally skilled, to offset this problem and maximise the fun for all and the challenge for the strong, we agree in advance on the wonders granted to weaker players. Thus, in our last game (last Saturday/Sunday - to be continued year 1760 - probably another full weekend) a friend of mine and I were not allowed to have the following wanders: Any happiness wander, The Great Library, Marco Polo's Embassy, Magellan's Expedition, The Statue of Liberty, Hoover Dam, SETI Program, and Leonardo's Workshop. This was a great way to balance the game.
In our games alliances, tech trading, contact with AI, AI racketeering is allowed, as is city bribing. For that reason, we all tend to build our treasuries to incredible levels as soon as possible, and since we play Islands, our fleets as well. We switch to Democracy as soon as possible also.
The games are very interesting and tense, although they tend to be fairly long.
I wonder if there's anything wrong with this set or rules, for I noticed that nobody here was playing it.

I like the way you use the wonders as a handicap. Interesting touch.

Yes, Hydey, they're otherwise known as baseball and basketball fans. You know those game where, if there's no actual physical movement on the field or court for more than a nano-second, they have to play loud music and bring on dancing girls?

It's interesting how neither game registers more than a blip on the radar here. Basketball, especially, despite the massive amounts spent on publicity and hype a couple of years ago.

Imagine a baseball website? If something took more than a nano-second to download, a brass band and dancing girls would march out the back of your computer to fill the silence.

You're thinking of gridiron - another dud sport.
With baseball, its the organ music that does my head in. Why do they need that terrible wheezing ruining every moment of the game?

Hey ease up on the baseball guys, it serves a vital role.
Last year when I was crook I would lie on the couch, turn on the baseball and bang , 4 hours sleep.

There is nothing wrong with any rules set.
(AS LONG AS THEY"RE AGREED TO IN ADVANCE AND AREN"T CHANGED/ARGUED ABOUT DURING THE GAME)
Groups do tend to modify them in a way that makes the game more fun for them. While there are some similar rules among groups, there are a lot of differences.

It is much more fun to argue about the rules during the game
