The AI bribed my capitol city!?
I was on the way to a spaceship landing, and the vikings landed a spy and made rome(my capitol with many wonders in it) revolt!
Fortunately, I had gold to move my palace, and a spy with gold available to take it back.
---I thought this was impossible--- this was 2.42

Were you playing a scenario of some sort? Or a game where the rules were even just a bit "personalized?"

I ask because I've seen it happen at the Emperor level on my games on occasion — Macintosh version.

Gatekeeper (and, hey, one time I had the AI bribe a city with 60 divisions of armor and howizters in it ... don't ask me where they got the money ... cheat, y'know)

Are you using the MAC version? If not what 'tweaks' have you got in place?

Yes, a save would be nice. This couldn't have been a normal game.

I did not think to go back to the autosave. This was a normal game, pc version, no mods, on 2.42. Earlier in the game, I double clicked on a square, and I got a message of some sort of a suystem problem and inviting me to continue or abort. I continued, thinking I could use the autosave, later if needed, but everything seemed normal. This was perhaps 20 or 30 turns earlier.

Well, I was playing a 1-city game once. It was going hard, but I had some 4 wonders in my very big and modern city,
and it was spaceship time, when a (I think it was a viking one as in your case, but I may be wrong) bribed it and destroyed my civ! I was furious.

Interesting. Never ever heard of it before this thread. Now I really want to see a save.

I think I reloaded, spot the spy and destroyed him, and continued the game. so don't count for it.

It happens on the Mac version now and then, too, and only on the Emperor and higher levels.

I'd like to hear of a PC version example, that didn't include a system error during the session.

Could the Spy have sabotaged the Palace?

I did not think this could happen, either. Especially in OCC. We need to see a SAV.

I didn't think a palace could be sabatoged. But I have a lack of experience in these situations.

I saw a spy and a howitzer land. The howitzer fired twice, damaging my MI's, then the spy bribed the city. It turned to the vikings, not just a random palace sabotage.

Are you sure the spy did not capture the city. Sometimes it happens real quick, expecially where howi's are concerned.

Spies cannot capture cities, unless the PC version of Civ II is radically different from the Mac version. Settlers and engineers, however, *can* capture cities. Caravans/freights *cannot* capture cities.

If it fired twice, it would have to have destroyed one of the MIs, if not both.

The message was "citizens of rome revolt" or something like that. I bribed the city back next turn, and saw two MI's with damage in the yellow. I think this is a bug, although my palace is not often in a place where a spy can get to it while a spaceship is in flight.

I think it's a *rare* AI cheat ability at the Emperor and above levels, personally.

Possible but I would have thought someone else would have encountered it and mentioned it. My money is on a bug until we have further information.

I am surprised. Over all the years here, this is the first time that someone has mentioned this. Especially after years of OCC.

Even if the phenomenon existed I would think the cap was exempt in OCC.

Well, I've mentioned it once or twice before, rah, but I suppose everyone just thought it was a Mac-centric issue. Well, HAH! You were all wrong! NYAH-NYAH!
