Star Trek: Birth of the Federation
Well, I used to play this game every once in awhile but now the Zone doesn't support it anymore. Does anybody else out there play or want to play it IP or something? If not, do you know of a place where I can find other Birth of the Federation players?

BoTF really isn't that good...............there were hardly any players in its heyday IIRC, so now it would be very tricky to find players.

The game was alright but would have been better if they had put as much effort into playability as they had into Trekiness.

The combat was terrible, too. You basically ran your ships at each other.

It was fun as Ferengi, bribing all the non-aligned species (which were stupidly overpowered) really early.

I enjoyed the game but I thought the map was too small. The combined area of Federation/Klingon/Romulan space was huge, not just a couple dozen stars. The tech tree was small and incremental and could have been alot more varied and race specific. The number of ship types were too small. I would have liked to see some customizing there. Despite all that I still found the game to be oddly compelling.

I liked BotF (including the combat model) but it had a lot of flaws in it).
The Starfleet Command series is a great series of games (my favorite is probably the gold version of the first game). Bridge Commander was pretty good, as were the old Star Trek adventure games (eg. 25th anniv). DS9: The Fallen and Away Team were enjoyable but not stellar.

I agree..........the old adventures were decent. Elite force (FPS) was good, albeit too short.

"Star Fleet Battles" and "Federation and Empire" without a doubt. (That is if you like board games). Star Trek computer games have had a sadly checkered past. If I had to recommend one of those I'd say Starfleet Command.

Get Star Trek Armada and then get a hold of the Star Trek vs. Star Wars patch. It's fantastic; sending off a huge fleet in a desperate attempt to down a Super Star Destroyer is great fun.

Hate to get into a Star Trek vs Star Wars debate but that would not be a fair match. Star Trek (even classic trek) has a HUGE tech advantage over Star Wars. The only advantage (and not a big one) Star Wars has is the force but the Empire isn't known for its widespread use of the force.

If Armada is the RTS I'd say avoid it like the plague. Horrible RTS with a thin veneer of Trekkiness to try and attract buyers.
The Starfleet Battles series is fun if you like small fleet engagements. I tried SB2 I got tired of it after a while because the game was just an excuse to pitch you into lots of battles which tended to get similar.

That would seem to describe most RTSs to me. They all seem to me to be Warcraft with a thin veneer on top and a name change (to Starcraft, Total Ann., C&C, Armada, etc, ad nausem).
