Peace Limerick Contest
Aidun's prose in the Peace thread has inspired the folks at Vox. We are into serious fund raising activities, as we are facing significant moving expenses in the very near future. We have applied for and received official status as a 'charity'.
Our first fund-raising activity will be a Limerick contest.
Official Rules:
The prose must be a standard five line A-A-B-B-A format limerick.
The theme must relate to the recent peace which has blessed the world.
It costs 1 gold for each entry.
All entries must be received by midnight July 10 (edt).
Judging will be done by Vox Controli. The judges decisions are final unless someone offers us a lot of gold to change our mind.
The grand prize is an all-expenses paid trip for two to your choice of North Estonia's most beautiful resort towns - either Harry's Hideout, or Beta-by-the-Sea.
Said prize to be used very quickly after the winner is announced. (in fact - you will really need to hustle, and please don't be disturbed by the large number of people leaving town when you arrive)
Second place prize is one lightly used catapult of recent vintage.
Third place prize is as many authentic Voxian Immortal scimitars as you can carry.
Fourth place prize is a signed and authenticated copy of the complete Gathering Storm Private Forum peace debate. Special 'out take' commentaries by nbarclay, Theseus, and Arrian are included.
Fifth place prize is a numbered print, entitled "Grog's Mountain", depicting the legendary battle between Eli and Grog. In the background, highlighted by the sun's rays, is a cloud which, for some unknown reason, is shaped like a tank.
Good luck, and thank you for supporting the Vox Controli Charitable Foundation.

And I will go first:
The Immortal, a peace Limerick, by Beta.
There was this Immortal from The Voice,
Who went off to war with no choice,
He returned badly bruised,
To go off on a cruise,
To a far distant place The New Voice.

I suck at formatted poetry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also suck a naming, by UnOrthOdOx
Immortals once gave the Storm fear
when beneath Grog they did first appear
But the winds did soon change
War Chariots came within range
and now they both sat down for beer.
Extra bonus Haiku addition.
Immortals Attack
Immortals Attack!
Gathering Storm lands counter;
Peace at last agreed.
How 'bout a Cinquain?
Conflict
Heated, Intense
Bombard, Maneuver, Kill
Genius, Patient, Unorthodox
Finish
Here's a Diamond,
War
Hard fought
Brave units lost
Talks end
Peace
come now, let's make it interesting...or maybe Ill just stop showing off now...

Here's one
Quote:

There was a young nation called Vox
With One Voice and rather nice socks.
They went round the bend,
But found a new friend
Whom we hope is immune to the Pox.

and another
Quote:

There once was a man known as Miller
Who's people were keen for a thriller.
They went weak at the knees
Now they'll take to the seas,
And keep a firm hand on the tiller.
|
not about the war, but anyway...
Quote:

There was a young fellow called Poet:
Frustrated, he hoped not to blow it.
But he should have rehearsed
Before penning his verse.
He's awful and now they all know it.

This will only make sense to Harry Potter fans ... if anyone can think of a better rhyme for the last line then I'd be grateful to hear it

There is a nice chap they call Beta,
We know him as “Liar” or “Cheater”.
His announcements were half
Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf
And the rest was pure Rita Skeeter

Or how about this? ... If my pronunciation of "Controli" is different to yours this might not work properly.

The men of the nation Controli
Had a plan that was rather holey
They marched off to the south
And barely opened their mouth
Before their ass was handed back to them slowly

Overheard some GS children singing this one. Had to change one of the words as it was too rude.
There once came immortals from Vox,
Who all have very large socks,
Now they are dead,
Cos they all wet the bed,
And they should of attacked bobians instead.

There is this nation called Vox
Their PR department sure rocks
The war was bloody
GS's face got muddy
and away to Lego went Vox

and another
GS and Vox fought a war
While StormHawks cried for more
Storm Doves said no way
that way we won't play
So there is no war no more.

There once was a nation called vox
Whose men all wore pink fluffy frocks
GS kicked their ass
While Vox called them rude
Cos GS all fought in the nude.

There was a young virgin from Storm
Who only wore clothes to keep warm
She saw the Vox coming
The handsome lad drumming
And of course she was pregnant by morn

Beware Sir Beta of Vox,
He'll make you look like a fox.
The truth hardly matters,
While this Hound chatters,
In spite of StormHawk squawks.

Scientists, some hundred and ten
Came to visit the farmer's new pens
They spliced up some genes
Some say those were sins
But they ended up with 3-legged hens

There once was a Voxian commander
Who wanted to strike like the thunder
But he decided too soon
He did not attack Monsoon
And now he's to blame for the blunder

The immortals had wanted to know
If they travelled through rain and through snow
Would they survive on flat land?
But they couldn't hold their stand
Not even with the help of GoW

A lass from the Eye of The Storm
Refused the call to conform
So she escaped to Vox
Met a man with great socks
And a likeness for her sweet form.

Vox had a plan ever so grand
But the forces of Storm made their stand
Vox's troops did their best
But in peace they do rest
And today peace is now close at hand

General Jon clearly had his dislikes
And that includes those damn pikes
So he said 'Let's march on'
Over the mountains at dawn
And the last word ever heard was a "Yikes!".

OK - from the above posts it would appear that the only people in the world capable, or willing, to write limericks are native to Estonia (or Stormia).
Or maybe so many members of GS are contributing because they don't want that private forum peace discussion to fall into the wrong hands.

FP - agreed. However, to date we have 13 from GS, 3 from Vox, and 1 each from GoW, Lego, and RP.
NeuD - well, we understand. Anyone care to try a limerick in German?

Make it 2 for Legoland
A humble nation once, I was told,
Raised a grand army; more than eye can behold.
They dared to challenge the storm
Their tactics clever: misinform.
The world was shocked: that was bold!
It was a defiant, heroic, final stand
Now they're ready to sail to Legoland
"We fought bravely, we never cheated,
We lost a fight, we're not defeated!
(painful silence) ... farewell Motherland."

What do you expect? Gee, the two teams who actually PARTICIPATED in the peace deal are the ones posting. I wonder why...
Well, since MY submission didn't even qualify as apparantly "willing or capable" Ill just leave this thread alone.
I'll just focus my efforts on Trappings instead

OK - I agree my words were not particularly well chosen , but I did include it in the GoW count, and your non-limerick pieces were excellent, btw.
And you do not have to have inside info to come up with a limerick.
So quit your complaining and get back in this thread.

It's over! I can't take this anymore! I'm sorry Beta, I can't keep up with these lies anymore. I have to confess.
This is the truth. Me and Beta have been using the limerick contest's admission fee to "launder" money. But now it is all over.
I surrender. Arrest me! Lock me up in the deepest of dungeons! I deserve it.
