Hey in limerick form ok
|
OK. How's this:
Shiber was being seriously sly
Turning poems into money on the fly
But an error at the bank
Led to an ominous clank
From the door of the prison in Eye.

A poor old bastard, nicknamed Eli
Caused the whole mess, the casus beli
Grog was shouting: "I WANT TANK!"
Instead Eli applied him a spank
and Grog from the mountain fell off slowly.

Breaking news: Shiber did confess
The contest is in distress
The admission fee was dirty
The money is in the laundry
While Shiber in a nice, convict dress.

Eli springs on Grog -
Storms howl in terrible rage.
Vox flees, gales abate.
Sorry, we're not Irish.

Beta's at sea for awhile
Sailing north o'er the Bobian Isle
Course west he does steer
But often you'll hear
"If only I had covered that tile..."

My attempt at a limerick in German. Which isn't my first language, which explains why it isn't very good...
Das klein Heer von Vox Sued gegangen,
Und hat einen Krieg angefangen.
Sie haben gestiefelt
Ueber Berg und Hochfeld,
Aber getoetet wurden durch Huehner und Schlangen.

They left their village and their family;
They had rendezvous with their destiny.
How avoid to be crushed
By enemies, quietly ambushed
And well equipped with machinery?

And this is the extent my grade 10 German (and believe me - that is a while ago) can translate. The rest - well, I extrapolated a bit.
The small guys(hey watch it) from Vox charged south
And had a war .....(angefangen?) (we used our teeth in anger?) (or was that the chickens? Do chickens have teeth?)
They had ...(gestiefelt?) (felt up the guests?)
Over Mountain and Cowfield
After going toe-to toe with two guys from Gathering Storm we have never heard of before - Huehner and Schlangen.
(Ah - so that is how GS beat us. They brought in ringers.....)
ps - Vulture - great stuff - thanks.

Das kleine Heer von Vox ist nach Süden gegangen,
hat einen Krieg dort angefangen.
Sie sind gestiefelt
Ueber Berg und Feld wohl bestellt,
und wurden getötet durch Huehner und Bananen.
Translation without the rhyme:
The little Army from vox did walk south,
begann a war then and there
they stalked
over mountain and field well prepared
got killed by chicken and bananas!
EDIT:
Eliminated some typos added Umlaute and replaced the snakes with bananas

I'm guessing that "gestiefelt" means "stalked", then.

Yes kind of. "Stiefeln" means to walk with boots "Stiefel" on your feet. It also has a meaning of stumble into something. So i better would have used the term strode but i did not find this word the time i wrote it...

The was once a massive exodus
caused by Vox's backstabbing flukes
but despite treachery
now we see charity
when before no-one cared about Lux!

Now Vox is sailing on a trip
across Bob's continental tip
but the Storm won't forget
and a price may be met
for GoW to sink that ship!

There once was a team called the Storm
Whose civ skills exceeded the norm
But Vox said screw that
And threw in their hat
But the Storm were true to their form.

I'll throw my hat into the ring!
"A War Gone Wrong" in 4 parts - by WhiteBandit
A war of mass proportions was launched,
And from the shores of Bob we watched,
As Vox marched down south,
GS kicked them in the mouth!
And a deceitful surprise was botched.
Despite this, people around the world still said,
"Don't abandon Vox, because we're all in bed!"
GS laughed and said, "Screw it!"
Because Vox had already blew it.
And from the shores of Estonia, Vox fled.
What will happen next, we don't know?
But the situation for Vox sure blows.
Yet Lego has been nice,
offering things from land to spice,
So where now will those immortals go?
As I end this really crappy poem
It sounds as if I'm saying, "Bah, Blow 'em!"
But that isn't the case you see,
I'm just being funny old me,
And I'm trying to win this contest of flowin'
*WhiteBandit bows.

The Lesson of the Estonian War
One day, a nation named The Voice
faced a terribly difficult choice:
No more land to settle
and they prepared for battle
south they marched with their boys
The Stormians saw the armies coming
So soon they had stopped their humming
Instead some were cought by fear
others became mad like a steer
Vox's plans were to them a bit stunning.
All hopes they literally put in Arashi
But they feared Vox would soon crash it
Such did never happen though
because Vox lacked scouts so
and they decided not to dash it
The Storm saw its second chance
They madly produced new arms
and managed to stop the Voice
by throwing rocks at Vox's brave boys
and arrows to stop them at once
More troops were demanded by the war
The first armies existed no more
City defences were reduced
too few swords were produced
And suddenly the enemy stood on the shore
Diplomatically the war then began
Peace treaties were proposed now and then
But lack of trust from both nations
made the players lose their patience
And the world demanded peace between them
Now the peace treaty is there:
Vox has agreed, they will settle elsewhere
The Storm shall have an island for its own
To let their civilization properly grow
And no war will ever be there
The future will tell us what is to come
Will it be war or cooperation?
Will we maintain with each other a good relation?
We can only play if we keep having fun
And the game will, by all of you, be won
Aidun

My first ever poem....
There was an old warrior name Grog
Who was killed under the cover of fog.
The Storm claimed foul
"We want revenge" they howl
And now Vox run away like a dog.
Sorry ... best I can do is Grog, Fog & Dog

Thanks for the improved version Darekill. Snakes only made an appearance because I needed something that rhymed with 'gegangen' and 'angefangen', and was rather stuck for vocab - Schlangen was the only word I could think of. Bananas are better.

Contest closes in two days. Any last entries - please get them in. The review committee is starting its judging.
And we have a sixth prize - A copy of the Hitchhikers Guide to Gather Storm, signed, yes signed, by Vulture himself.
