It says something that a campaign involving 2 very qualified candidates is such a rarity that it needs to be remarked upon...
I had a real tough time deciding who to vote for, but it was a real relief to know that whomever wins will do the job well. Both are well-known, reliable, talented, and experienced.
I voted for...
"one of them".

it is often better to remain silent and appear a fool than to speak and remove any doubt.

Bah! Any true member of the Chosen people would know that what I promise is an intergral part of the Foriegn Minister's Duty. For the protection of the entire Imperium.

It is noted that as we have only just discovered the infidels known as the "Romans" that we do not yet have a foreign policy on them. Any insight on what the recommended foreign policy will be from the two candidates?

An excellent question! The Romans seem powerful, their cities are well-placed to resist exploration, they seem very protective of their territory, and they react quickly to any intruders. I was unable to penetrate their territory with 2 Horses. The first found a city and was unable to escape their boundaries before being forcibly removed to our nearest city. The second Horse is in the same situation, and I recommend the next President delibertly allow that Horse to be transferred to Devastation (formerly Osaka) so that it can save many turns of backtracking!
So I will also be interested in what the candidates say about this matter.

I apologise for not having been here sooner - I had a weekend off many things, including the Net for once.
I have not been here more than sporadically the last few weeks due to heavy involvement in the ISDG. However, I believe I could do this job well, and it is a job I have not yet tried in the DG here, having prior experience as President, VP, SMC and in the currently unused Trade Supremo position.
I look forward to helping to recommend foreign policy to the President and SMC. As of present I have little immediate knowledge of our Foreign policies, and the times I was President we had not discovered anyone else, thus I have not seen the savegame with others present. I am going to spend some time catching up right now.
I will post further thoughts once I have caught up, so don't vote just yet, OK?

Thoughts about our international situation (again slightly difficult with only posted maps and reports to go by, but I think I have a handle on it):
The brief war with Japan was indeed costly in terms of units with their unexpected pre-emptive assault before our armies could have a go at them, and it was in the Imperium's best interests to accept their ceasefire when it happened. Troops are needed there, and I will push the SMC and President to do this before declaring war on them again. As for the others, there are some nice wonders out there, but we can't take them unless we know where they are.
In short, it is my opinion that the Imperium's ambitions have always been forged in the thirst for conflict, and that is exactly what should shape our foreign policy. Explore until we meet all opponents, and seek to learn as much about their juicy Wonder cities as possible, then take them. We need not trade with them in most circumstances, except where military technologies are available. As for those we know - Japan - I would try my best to aid the SMC and President in their objectives of building and transporting sufficient forces there to begin our manifest destiny.

Congrats MWIA
Your campaign speech came less than 2 hours before the election was over, I hope you aren't as turgid in office as you were in campaigning

/me shrugs
What excuses can I find? I'm not used to three day polls (but 5), I half expected Tower to win no matter what I did anyway and I was at a raucous 21st over the weekend.
At least one of them has to satisfy.
Thanks everyone for your vote of confidence - I hope I have shown that I was thinking about the job and ready to answer questions as soon as I saw the poll was up (unluckily that was two days after said poll started!). Now I know what's happening you can be assured that at least I cannot use that excuse again.

Congratulations MWIA:
I second Cavebear, in the enormous amount of expertise shared by both candidates.
Welcome to the team, MWIA.
