Settlers
Why is it that sometimes when I drag the mouse for a settler and stop, it shows me an outline as if the settler was on that square, but other times it doesn't? What determines this, and what exactly is the outline?

Hum, never noticed to not display the superimposed city layout as an aura. Sometimes it is hard to see if the settler is within a city.

I'm not talking about the settler itself. When you move the mouse to give a GoTo order you will see the number of turns to get to the destination, and sometimes with a settler you will see the layout at the destination. Sometimes you will not. I'm just wondering why sometimes you don't.

It shows the initial influence of the city if it were built here, but it doesn't show it if the settler is not located in a place where he could be a city (for exemple if he is just next to another city, or on mountains).

You will not see the city layout until the settler has reached its destination when using goto orders.

You're wrong Mad Bomber, and I have some clues, you can see the city layout as if the settler was on the square where I tell him to go to (but the displaying of the layout depends on the actual location of the settler, not on the location of the cursor) :

Well... actually it is quite strange : I often build cities far away from my capital first, in strategic places in order to block the other's settlers from colonizing my territory. In my current game the Iroquois were always trying to get through my territory to fill the unclaimed land that was near from my capital, but right after I sent a settler to build a city here, I saw settlers from every other civilizations coming to this place (anyway mine was nearer and I settled my city before them).

When you first activate the settler the grid will show you the city grid for the settlers destination. Once on the journey it will only show the grid of the settlers locationj at the end of its turn (assuming its a multiple turn goto)
