I swore off on French bashing when they backed the occupation at the UN. My wife still calls our french poodle a freedle (i.e. freedom poodle), and I guess that one is going to stick.

This entire "French Fry" "Freedom Fry" thing is REALLY embarassing for the united states.
So is the "Idiot Cheese" thing for France.

I'll go to my supermarket today if I have the time (I'm spending the weekend in France) to see if there is anything like that, and I'll ask my mother about it if I remember. But don't hold your breath : I have never heard of "Idiot Cheese" anywhere else than on this board.

We call the fries just french.
ranskalaiset = the french.
ranskalaiset = french fries.
The original ranskalaiset perunat = french potatoes is way too long so it's rarely used.
So we eat french here.
Somehow I got the feeling I'm not the first finn to tell this vital information, maybe first in this thread but...

I suppose it could be a take-off on American Cheese, but I didn't think that many in France would know what it is...

Apparently, the French have recruited woody allen in a "charm campaign" to head off some of the anti-franch sentiment.

May 30— In an effort to win back hearts in the United States, France has commissioned a little schtick from one of America's best-known comedians: Woody Allen.

Quote:

"I don't want to freedom kiss my wife," says Allen says in a new ad spot. "I want to French kiss her."

Personally, I don't think most Americans want to see him do either one.....

With the important exception, of course, that French/Freedom fries actually taste good, while Idiot Cheese still sucks either way.
