"50 posts / page" gone?
For as long as I can remember, I've read Poly with 50 posts per page of a thread. Nice round number and enough stuff on a page for me.
Today when I logged in I noticed, however, that threads with 90 posts had four pages in them. Puzzled by this, I went to see that my thread view was on "forum default", which apparently was 20 or 30 or something posts per page. 50 wasn't even an option in the drop down menu.
So, either the 50 posts option has disappeared (why?) or the forum default for the forums has dropped from 50 (why?). That, or I'm imagining things again. I can't see any reason why 50 per page shouldn't be an option, so I suspect a bug of some sort.

hi ,
nine to ten they have changed this to give everyone a chance to browse and post , ......
imagine twenty people would have ten threads open with 100 posts in them , ......
this could explain why the site owners changed it , ......
have a nice day

I'd like to have 50 as an option, but to leave the default view at 20 or so.

This was what I thought of at first, but the change from 50 to 40 can't possibly be that big, really. Besides, that doesn't affect the number of posts a thread has at all. If I view a thread with 200 posts, I read 5 pages instead of 4 now, the load to the server ought to be the same except there're more slightly shorter periods of connection.
So is the big idea here that more people will be able to view shorter bits of threads? And that full pages will have time to load between server outages? Still, I can't imagine the effect of dropping from 50 to 40 being that big.

After being downloaded, the thread has no effect on the load. Ten thousand people could have a window with 100 posts in it, if they just didn't load them all at once.

Where can you change that? I thought the length of the posts affected the number per page.

I liked 50, but now I get 40. Could it be that I changed to a Light (or maybe it was Special) style?

If you had it set at 50 or some other number, it will stay like that until you go into the "change options" part of your control panel and mkae some changes. So if you want to keep it like it is, don't change your options.

Edit options -> Default posts per thread
You must not have been looking hard.

50 is good.
I would find the other thread, but people have answered the question in this thread already.
Don't change your options, otherwise you will have to drop from 50 to default.
Much quicker to catch up when reading 50 posts per page.

I'm quite happy where I am, but I have no idea where that is. 50? 100? 314? 6?
