There wouldn't have been a Spanish or Victorian British (nee English) Empires if Emperor Oerdinus had his way.

Oh, we would have to see....
Btw, I've usually thought that Victorian England and British Empire are the correct terms...and not Victorian Britain or English Empire, for example

France in 1704. but i need to develop some coal mines, stockpile iron, and get the sugar flowing in so the artisans stay productive, and make sure i have enough siege guns for an attack on the Spanish Netherlands.
Oops - wrong thread. See my AAR in other games.

assuming i could live hundreds of years... Id capture Archemedes alive(!) and foster his creativty and others too... since a simple steam engine device had already been made durring the Helenistic era (was a novelty device, that opened doors to a temple and little more. didnt catch on because slaves were so common... ), with minds like archemedes Im sure I could eventually be applied toward industry over the next couple centuries, mass producing iron weapons and lorica segmentata... I would recruit Legions up the ass and speacial ones too for forest and mountian combat... and dont forget about hordes of speacialy bread war elephants and Rhinoceroses! not to mention the other billions of helpful applications of the industrial revolution...

Mine too.
More specifically, I'd like to take over the Soviet Union in the early 1960s. It was the crucial point for the country. Stalinism was condemned, the moral climate was great, the power was at its apex. At that point, with a correct policy, it was not impossible to win the cold war, and to build a socially oriented civilized society. Instead, the country slipped into the desastrous Brezhnev era of pseudo-stability and pseudo-prosperity, and meaninglessly wasted its opportunities.

why did I write that?
Anyways I find the Chinese choice interesting. Imagine creating the industrial age hundres of years ahead of the Europeans. The only problem is the majority of the population is isolationist. So could you really do anything with that high technology?

The Free Star Union (a nation I created in the Starfleet Univers). If not, the Federation is always a good choice.

I would choose United States -- only not as president, but as a benevolent emperor.
And I would set my capital in Palm Springs.

No Spiffor... I meant you could BE the emperor instead of just following in his footsteps...
As for Rosbif resistance, I've been told the Prussians, Russians, Austrians, Spanish and Portuguese had a lot to do with it as well.
Credit where it's due.

Only neo-confucianists were truly isolationists. China had been an open country for most of its history. It only appeared isolated because it was so hard to reach.
China had the best shot at capitalism during the Song dynasty. Unlike any other dynasties, the main source of state income was based on industry and trade, not on agriculture.

Of course, we Eurocoms are far more subtle. We'd simply choke Lonestar to death using one of our special 'killer pretzels', a prototype of which was tested out on Bush some time ago.
