Phew. There's hope for me yet. I thought it had something to do with technique.
BTW, what brand/type was the Prize Putter?

Golf in Thailand was great - young female caddies, a drinks kiosk every 3 or 4 holes and the 19th hole meant something really interesting.

Banging big drives is good but hitting greens is what really counts.

Nah, hitting greens with your drives is what really counts.

Yup, hopefully next spring. It was bad enough being a newbie at Kemper, but I was doomed when the winds hit us. Rah can hit the ball low, but damn near all of my shots are sky balls. I gotta learn how to hit punch shots, but I am planning on buying a set of nice, new irons and getting some lessons later this summer. I've never had any lessons and I figure my inconsistency driving the ball is a mechanical problem that can be corrected by a club pro.

At least it's better technology. But I'm still convinced that confidence is what makes a person a good putter.
|
I agree, sometimes I don't have clue when I'm putting. It's like all of a sudden I have absolutely no idea how hard to hit the ball.
I know from the few times I've gotten a hot streak putting that confidence is very important.

Okay. As long as it wasn't one of those really really really expensive Scottie McGregor ones.

Tell me about it. I understand pendulum motion, I understand hands and wrists and arms and shoulders operating as a unit. Trying to achieve that without loading up on tension is my challenge.

Shyte, I still use the putter I got with my first set of clubs I bought for $35 bucks. (the whole set) If I miss a 4 foot putt , its not the putters fault

I won the putter at a golf outing. IN A PUTTING CONTEST. Which is silly. Who wins a putting contest and then wants to change to a new putter. Equally silly was the winner of the long drive contest won a driver.
I don't know what people think when they set these things up, but it's very common, just like stupidity.

That didn't cross my mind, until you mentioned it.
That, And the last outing I was at, the winner won a new set of clubs. When he accepted he was laughing and said, I just played the best round of my life, why would I want to change clubs.

He should have auctioned the clubs to the highest bidder and put the money on the bar.

Well, it was one of those outing where all the drinks were free. (vendor outing) Not a charity outing where you have to contribute to go to the bathroom.

Hmmm, I seem to have no problems drinking and playing. Maybe the Aussies aren't that tough.
But I will admit that I usually don't start drinking till the turn. It makes it easier to pace myself. hahahahah

I know what you mean. My company sponsors 3-4 such events per year, and I instituted a policy this year that we won't sponsor if they don't wise up and offer appropriate prizes.
So the pro audio events in Nashville and LA (for record producers, sound engineers, etc.) offered my company's microphones as prizes. MANY comments on how much better it was to get a $800 microphone instead of a useless extra club.
The other 2 events, we got them to switch to pro shop gift certificates -- so the longest putt winner could get himself the driver he needed, etc. (Best part was my boss winning closest to the pin and getting the $350 Futura putter. )
It's so easy to be a hero, correcting other people's stupidity. Talk about your good PR moves...

Yes, a much better idea.
Even though I was at one event last year and won a $75 dollar gift certificate in the pro shop, so I figured "great, i'll get a shirt in the pro shop" and the cheapest shirt was $90.

I usually have a few on the way around but free drinks would probably too tempting and 12 before the 1st tee would have an effect on my swing.

Yes, the trouble comes when I play in the morning and then play again in the afternoon. But surprising enough, the afternoon round is usually the better of the two rounds. Despite the drunken stupor.

I remember playing in a 36 hole charity event and my friend and I were equal leaders after the first 18, a few beers with lunch , a few more on the next few holes and it all fell apart in the last 9

Yes, it's tough to swing when you can barely walk.
We played in one event that budweiser was one of the sponsers. As much as I'm not a fan of that brand, when there's a 50 gallon drum full of free ones on every TEE, it's hard to pass them up. It was a shotgun start and by the time we got to our 5th hole, every single drum was empty. Oh, and every cart had a full cooler when we started. There were a lot of drunk people out there that day.

There is a fine line between enough beer to relax the mind and too much beer that just numbs it.
