Bush 'indicted' over war crimes
A group of Japanese lawyers unveiled documents Monday "indicting" U.S. President George W. Bush for war crimes allegedly committed against the Afghan people since the United States-led coalition began its antiterrorism campaign in Afghanistan in October 2001.
"This is an act that breaks international rules, such as the idea of (honoring) human rights, that have been formed over so many years," said Koken Tsuchiya, former president of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations and head of the 11-member prosecutors' team in the tribunal. "We decided this case has sufficient reason to be brought to court."
A civic tribunal will be held in Tokyo, with the first hearing scheduled for July 21.
The charges against Bush, according to the indictment, include aggression, attacks against civilians and nonmilitary facilities and the torturing and execution of prisoners.
They said the indictment will be handed to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo next week.
The tribunal is being organized by Tokyo Zokei University professor Akira Maeda and others.

If so, Europe and Japan should reciprocate

Not a bad plan. Maybe they can recruit Duane "Dog" Chapman to hunt down Franks and Rummy and bring them to trial.

This can't be tolerated. I demand Japan to be bombed immediately. They are clearly not with Dubya, and hence, against him. Oh, and cut them their military aid, too!

I'll be over there in a month, so I'll do all the whinging for my fellow countrymen.
BTW, this isn't the same as Belgium's stupid law. The Belgian case had the possibility of actually making Bush and other Americans wanted fugitives, while this Japanese case just seems like a stunt by some lawyers. This has no possibility of resulting in charges on Bush, if I know my Japanese law correctly (which I most likely don't ).

Yeah, real funny until we need replacement parts for all of that Japanese stuff we bought.
I would point out that the few things we still manufacture are manufactured with Japanese tools and robots (this includes the few electronic items we still manufacture).

the US still manufactures quite a few things. obviously if the japanese cut us off a huge industry of getting the american economy replacement japanese parts would spring up overnight. so thats irrelevant.
but to point out, honda has a plant in the US. as do lots of other companies because it provides stability against monetary fluctuation, tariffs, and any number of other unknowns.

Assuming US industry can figure out the metric system, intellectual property barriers remain.
When I was a college kid I worked in a few factories. All of the tools and robots were Japanese.

Ah yes, the other reason why sanctions are pointless. Besides, I want my imported smoked kelp.

wth? the metric system? u gotta be kidding. like OMG NO ITS ALL IN WEIRD #'S. wutever.
I don't see replacement parts being a huge problem. I mean there's any one of like 50 solutions. maybe the most evident being that if we were THAT pissed at japan(and vice versa) to close each others borders that we would simply start manufacturing the parts ourselves.
and I didn't think we were talking about tariffs or sanctions(japan has lots of those against us) I thought we were talking about closed borders.

I'm not either. I was hoping you could help. I think I could put the word relief into an ascii "smiley" but it wouldn't be the same relief.
