Well in fact it is related to the ACDG game. It was suppose to be a prototype probe team that we published in the Hive newspaper Pravda.

First... if you had taken the time to read the rules on uploads, it is very clear. Only game site supported related material is allowed.
|
I clearly remember people encouraing to use the uploads for very large thread attachements. And the rules weren't as clear and bold when it was just added.
Quote:
|
Second... as stated, it was a 24 hour restriction, and it served it's purpose... it got your attention.
You broke the rules... so it was more than justified.
|
Great. Why not ban me for a month then?
The whole thing comes out of a mis-understanding, not intentional misuse.
If an announcement was made in the spirit of: "check your uploads for irrelevant material, and remove them. you've got 48 hours" this whole banning thing could have been avoided.
I'm sure this saved the mods alot of time... 1 message compared to 10+ bannings.
You could also send a PM to all the people who have files uploaded, to check them for legality. That would take some 2 - 4 lines of php and sql. Probably also shorter than the banning process.

Given the need for quick and flexible action, I'd suppose the banning process is pretty fast

Would you like a month? It can be arranged if you wish
But the crime doesn't justify it. A day was about what you deserved for not staying current on the rules.
As far as the process goes... mods had nothing to do with it. It's Mark and Dan's job. Take it up with them by PM if you have a problem with how they run their private site

Gladly
The owners want to make sure the site is (sorta) spam-free, yet they force people to SPAM if they wish to upload multiple pictures?
And yea, I opted for a warning first. But my thread somehow seems ot have disappeared

I agree though, the constant banning and impossible correct use of it makes me think the Upload Service is rather half-baked.
Also isn't encouraging members to use Upload for all large files on the site and then restricting it to game-related kind of doubletalk? For example a screenie that would be useful in the OT (which is a game anyways. )
Anyways, I hope there's a mod out there working on the Definitive Final No Exceptions Ultimatum on whut is to be uploaded?
EDIT: Though these bans are probably a result of a backlog in the "Random Ban List" in the staff forum.

What about a nice friendly warning and a "get that file off in 48 hours or else" instead?
|
This would infact double the work-load, wouldn't it.
First noticing it was there and then 48 hours chacking if it was still there.
Perhaps FP can still make a newsitem to attract peoples attention...

An upload is where you click "upload a file" in the post reply screen, and it uploads a file to the poly servers, which you can then link to

No, you were banned because the mods took a secret poll of the most hated person on the internet and you won.

You're confusing attachments with uploads.
Attachments are what you describe. They can be anything that falls within decency guidelines.
Uploads are done using the appropriately named "upload" link in the upper right of each page, between "my threads" and "members". It allows you to upload other files and images, so long as it's game-related.

Hmmm, I wonder what someone would think who only read that last post. (Edit: Darn, FP beat me to it.)
Anyway, *shrugs* it's just my personal opinion. I consider every signature bigger than four or five lines too long to my taste.

What I don't understand is that there is a 4 lines limit on the signature, how do you guys do it to have so long signs?

I wondered about that too. Perhaps it isn't really a four line limit, but a limit of four times pressing "Enter".

You are probably right. Anyway as you said before I also don't like really long signatures. The one I have right now (and that no non-spanish-speaker would understand ) is the longest I ever had.

Both Skywalker and Chilean President have so damn long signatures that no one can possibly be arsed to read them.

Sigs should be short and punchy..............anyone with long ones is either missing the point or just trying to annoy people.
That should make someone a nice sig.

My sig is short and to the point. But I've never seen it myself...I've turned those d***ed things off as they are usually annoying as hell.
