Ming, please close this thread. I'm speaking on behalf of Siro, who is obviously not in his right mind.

Gee, you see, with common sense I would at least expect that they have intended the uploading service for temporarily locating game files such as e.g. saved games and such files, not your personal files, music, illegal copyright files, etc. Just my personal opinion. Anyway, if you need to host files, do it elsewhere than Apolyton, because you basically steal bandwith for illegal or otherwise non essential files.

No one was using illegal copyright files IIRC. IIRC it was some kind of a test for the early days that was forgotten.
But you've got the point with your second idea--better to just stay unbanned.

What the hell do I have to do with anything?
If you didn't know you did something wrong, you obviously didn't pay attention very well. When the upload feature was announced in the news, announcement and forum thread, a link the the FAQ was also included, which is very specific in telling you what can and can't be uploaded ("Only files related to the games we cover are accepted"). This same link is also present on the main upload page. Also, in the official forum thread of this upload feature, the very first question, asked by DrSpike, was what was allowed to be uploaded. Markos's reply was quite clear:
Quote:
|
civ* files, civ* images, civ* saved games, etc
* civ = civ1/2/3, ctp1/2, smac, moo1/2/3, ron, etc
|
This was when the upload feature was still in beta and hadn't been announced yet in any other place than the Apolyton forum. So the rules in this respect were quite clear from the very beginning. Since this first announcement, Markos made probably half a dozen similar statements in that same and other related threads and places (including the FAQ, which has existed and remained unchanged since the official release and announcement of the feature).
If you've missed all this, it might be wise to look at yourself first in determining the cause for your (intentional or unintentional) ignorance.

Ming, are you trying to wait for enough evidence to get a -10% too, or are you just being sadistic and waiting for the right time to close just as the argument was heating up?

Honestly though, compare this with TKG's 3 week ban earlier this year, you should count yourself lucky.

I do agree that this thread needs to be closed. It's drama (speaking of which, my drama pictuer AND post was deleted!!! MING!!!! ) has become too high.
But I also agree that there ought to be a warning before a ban. For example, one of the two files DanQ banned me for WAS a DG file. I'm not sure about the other one, because it was deleted But the other one was named "Propaganda.bmp", so I'm pretty sure it was also a DG file.
Had I been PMed about it, I might have been able ot resolve it.

Well I have a question about the upload tool.
WRW was banned cause he upload a sceenshot of another game, why is that forbidden? after all, here in Poly we also have a "Other Games" forum.

If I were a lawyer, or some such substitute, one could argue that the "Other Game" is not one which the Apolyton staff cover, thus doesn't fall into the catagory which is allowed to be uploaded.
But that's only looking at the rules.

But then one could argue that Apolyton is covering thsoe games by having an "Other Game" forum, and therefore is protected

But then we'd devolve into the whole forums vs. site debate, etc. etc. etc.
Besides, some of the pages on site note that these games (EU, EU2, HoI, Other Games etc.) are not covered by the site, but allow places for the members to discuss them.
I thing the entire thing is totally silly myself, but still.
