Mafia, the best non-strategy game ever
I'm just installing this game for the 3rd time, it's so good!
Have you played Mafia?

I've heard of the game... It's like Grand Theft Auto in the 30s.
Never played it though.

No, it's WAY better then GTAs.. only thing that is simular is that you drive cars in that game as well. It looks good, and it has excellent shooting mode, one of the best I've ever seen/tried, and you get to have those old guns. Tommy gun is really nice and fun to shoot other gangsters. Music is great, old music, but it gets a bit repeatetive. Story is great, awesome, it's like a movie. A long movie.
It's doesn't concentrate on how much blood you can spill, but you still get to spill quite a lot of it. All my buddies that have played it.. all LOVED it. It's something different.. The city you're in.. huge. Absolutely beautiful.
You get hooked.. http://www.mafia-game.com/
Check it out.
It requires quite a lot of power from PC, so you should have a decent computer, otherwise it's not that good.
The minimum requirements? For get it. Recommended requirements? FORGET IT! You need more power than that (you can check it out from the web page I provided).
But I truly recommend you try this game if you're at all interested after viewing the homepage. It's a gangster game with some driving too and it's bound to be a classic.

I haven't finished my first game yet, and probably never will...
This game might have an interesting story, but it lacks in freedom... you're only got one mission at a time...
I have only had one fun mission...
I do like the fact, if you drive too fast, and cops are nearby, they'll go after you, but you can shake them off also... And you can't unlock all cars from the beginning, you need to learn how to do it first...

I'm at the race at the moment, I always make one mistake on the final lap, so I only get in second... If it at least was fun to do that race, but it isn't

The best missions are definitely after the race. Lots of massive shooting scenes!!!!!!!!! Nice ones too, I recommend you suck it up and torture yourself with the race and complete it. I know, I hated that mission too..

Oh yes it's so beautiful. Story is good so it keeps you want to go further to see what happens. There is the danger of not passing some mission, and then you get bored and angry and destroy the game, light it on fire while wildly chanting naked next to it.
But, all missions are very playable and it doesn't concentrate on ridicolous puzzles. I'm telling you guys the shooting mode is good once you get used to it. It's so cool to crawl with your tommy gun or shot gun in some warehouse, chased by rival gangsters while you were bootlegging Canadas finest whiskeys..
At the beginnig of this game, there are quite a lot of missions involving lots of driving, and that makes you bored sometimes and angry. At daylight, you can't speed that much, because the cops will get you. Or at least chase you, and it's not exactly GTA where you can just blast away. Night time.. you can pretty much let it go and speed all you want.
And like I said earlier, you need to have a powerful computer to handle the game. Well decent computer, and as you look at the screenshots, you now understand. The game is totally ruined if your PC can't handle this and it twitches all the time. Or that you have to lower the details or resolution. It's just so much fun to play this game. I just want everyone to play this game to the last mission, because it's a good story and you have to see it through. The last mission is just awesome.
Some people argue that it's stupid because you can't save the game when you're playing a mission, but you have to actually accomplish the mission before the game saves it for you. I agree that it felt pretty stupid, but now that I think of it, I think it was only better.
This game is a master piece, and I'm definitely checking what is happening with the game actively, as I love it.
Of course there are few things that could be better, but nothing is perfect I guess. I was very frustrated with the compass and navigating system, until I realized at the end of the game that you actually have a map, but I just didn't know how to get it up. Well just press TAB .
I did it the hard way..
Check out the webpage I provided. There are screenshots, even demo if you want to try it out. And links to unofficial fan pages, some of them are pretty cool.

[old fart rant]
In the old days we didn't get to save at just any point, and IMO it made the games better. The invention of being able to save anywhere was a dark day, so this makes me even more likely to look at this game if I get time.

My brother got Mafia for his birthday last year, and I was actually quite getting into it myself until I noticed that the character of Sarah bore a striking resemblance to a girl who dumped me a short while before, who also happened to be called Sarah. At this point, the game started to get a little too realistic for me.
