Did you put a piece of lime in the bottle before you drank it? You have to do that to kill Montezuma's Revenge (and keep the beer from tasting like ****).

Something to consider: one reason beer became an important beverage in the past was that local beer was often much safer to drink than local water, even though the beer was made using the water.

Depends on where you are, and also your immunity level.
Seriously, water quality is highly variable across the country depending on source.
Beer is either made with spring water, or deionized/distilled water, since the hardness/mineral content affects the brewing process.
Corona seems to be almost exclusively gringo beer. It's rare it's even on the menu except in restaurants where gringos are likely. It's not bad, but definitely not near the best Mexico has.

The reason why alcoholic beverages and boiled beverages (beer, wine, tea, coffee, etc) were drunk in the past is because they are more sterile than local water supplies were. You either kill the bugs with ethanol or you boil them to death.
You're safer drinking the beer than you would be eating at the salad bar.

Yes it is mexican beer made with mexican water. Corona has a large production plant, and it has chemical engineers and technicians that watch out for "your" concerns.
You have better chances of getting sick with US or canadian made beer.
I don't drink corona because its way too light.
how about you try getting sick with some arrogant bastard ale.
though it might be too strong for you.

whoosh!! Did you hear that? that was my (attempt at a) joke flying over your head.
Look, don't be too offended. I don't think that Asher is some sort of bigot who thinks that Mexico is full of primitive people or whatever. I know it can be esp. offending since the economical situation there isn't the best. But once again, Asher is a good guy.
It's like those terract jokes people make about Israel. "the party was a blast", etc. Don't let it bother you.

When I was a tourist in Mexico, the hotel I was in highly recommended not to touch tap water, even to brush your teeth...
I brushed my teets with tap water, however, and I survived

Not if you don't mind getting bacterial infestations in your intestines which will cause you to have diariha erupt violently at random times.
BTW The carbonation and the alcohle will kill any bacteria so the beer is safe. Also all of the major hotels have in house water treatment systems so you can drink the water there.

Local water supply here in Tijuana is mostly water hardness/mineral content, and inorganic solids (sediment), due to being piped from the Colorado river.
Bacteria is within US norms in the main parts of Tijuana (outskirts served by wells is a different story).
Chihuahua has deep wells and natural sandstone filtration, so both mineral content, solids and organics are excellent.
Mexico City is built over reclaimed marshland and is at high elevation, so there's an artificial basin with high levels of organic source material in the soil, so it's a problem.
Mexico has (in the areas where there is industrial base) a lot of modern industrial base that is indistinguishable from the rest of the developed world, so process water treatment is commonplace, and fully up to the highest standards.

From what I understand, people are not to drink the water not because of water quality, but because of the mix of organics and microbes which varies from region to region. You don't notice it in your own water because you're accustomed to it -- go someplace that has a different mix (this goes for Europe, Australia, etc), and you're liable to get walloped for a few days.

I got the Corona because I was being a badass and buying it for minors. They all had to go home to their concerned mommys and daddys so I was left with the leftovers.
I had one, thought it was alright, and then realized it was Mexican beer.
With Mexican water.
And I flashbacked to my time in Mexico, and the horrid water, and I nearly started gagging and dumped it.
Then again, I wasn't totally sober.

Where in Mexico?
Good bottled water is available here dirt cheap.
Southern California tapwater is pretty putrid, too, but at least you get your daily calcium.
