So I haven't played Civ in several months. Now, for reasons that I'd rather not take the time to explain (it would make this post rather lengthy and I'd be angry at the conclusion), I want to start playing again.
So I put in the CD and loaded up the game. Went to the opening screen, then that screen goes away, and some fatal error comes up. I attempt various things to solve this problem (like making sure the datafile is where it should be), but this is all to no avail.
Eventually, I just reinstall it. Now, it gets a little further into the loading process, and then just freezes up. I have to control alt delete and still I have no Civ for me.
I know there's not much to go on here, but I want to know what's wrong. I've got Windows 98 and the 1.29f patch, if that means anything at all.
Oh, and this is good old fashioned Civilization III, not PtW.
Try installing it on a different drive/partition. What I think happens, is that some remains are still left in the register that interfear with the installment.

hi ,
uninstall , search manually for all files like civilization , infogrames , arts , etc , ...... delete those , delete the trash , reboot , reinstall , get patch , enjoy , ......
warning , turn off all security hard and software during this to be sure (!)
