I think it is being planned after we have built up about 20 warriors to upgrade to swords. This is a fairly good idea but for one little problem.
On Diety, the AI research MUCH faster than we do. And with tech trading, feudalism and Pikemen are just a hop and a skip away. Swordmen vs Fortified Pikemen in cities is not very encouraging. I think we should look at a scaled back version of a war with the Iroqouis. Maybe 10 to 15 warriors to sword and just go for a few (3, maybe 4) cities. Let our main objective be just to grow and gain tech and cash (no gpt) against them. Consentrate more heavily on Archer production (as the Archer to Bezerker upgrade looks more and more like the best upgrade in the entire game. I will explain more later). Once we get invention, we upgrade our 30+ Archers and go on a rampage that has never been seen before.
Archer to Bezerker upgrade:
Archer: 2/1/1 20 shields
Bezerker: 6/2/1 70 shields, amphibious. 50 gold to upgrade from Archer.
Length of usefulness of Bezerker:
a) 6 attack is not reached by any unit until Cavelry (spelling). Cav come in the late middle age, and Cav are useful till the advent of Inf late in the Industrial age. We will be attacking on the ground with our bezerkers effectively for the entire time Cav is useful only we get it MUCH sooner (early middle age).
b) Amphibious. The first Amphibious unit in this game is the Marine. The Marine comes late in the industrial age and is useful till the end of the game. With an early middle age amphibious unit (doubley so on this archapeligo map) we will be sending out galley after galley (then Caravel after Caravel, then Galleon after Galleon etc) filled to the brim with Bezerkers for nearly 2 ENTIRE AGES!
We must prime ourselves for this upgrade possibility to maximize its effectiveness. Once we get invention, the upgrade is lost as the Bezerker requires no resourses to build (and we thusly loose the Archer completely).
So in conclusion, I say:
archer! Archer!! ARCHER!!!

I am almost 100% positive it is 100G to upgrade to Berserks.
Still, I would lean towards this as well.
ARCHERS BABY, and lot's of em....
Galleys too with this skinny land...

More to the point, Iriquois aren't going anywhere. A trimming now will make them an easy tech upgrader/leader farm later. 15 warriors should be enough for that, but have limited life span in terms of upgrades. Lots o' archers will not be completely outdated until Infantry.
A berserker mass is awfully powerfull.

If we want to upgrade 30 archers..we will need 3000 gold, assuming we dont get Leo's which is unlikely without a well timed leader that can't be used for Sistene. As long we we dont plan on doing our own research, we can come up with that gold evne when accounting for our other upgrades (i.e. Spear->pike and warrior->Sword-> Med. Inf.).

why destroy them? just take enough cities so they drop their pants long enough to give us their techs, gold, workers, etc etc.
All AI cities besides the capital are for the most part defended by 2 spearmen. That gives 10-15 swords a good chance of capturing 4-5 cities.
btw, since I've only recently de-lurked here, do we have horses? If so, I would advise building ~5 horses for dealing with the MWs they're likely to field.

We don't have Horses.  But neither do the Iroquois.  It'll be solely a sword vs. sword battle.
There's an Ottoman city to our west with Horsies, though. That should probably be our next target, unless we want to take the Zulu horse on our eastern border.

I will attack when we have a force to attack with. Right now we have squat - and if we attack we will be the whipping dogs, not them. We need to take 5 cities in order to secure a lux (furs) which is my objective. After that it is just keep marching until we make peace. 5 cities is a lot on deity, and we should have been building units constantly, not many of the temples and such that we are. We have to also provide units (2 per city) to let them grow up to size 3. I am hoping we can get a GL out of this war to get the Great Library - that will keep us in the tech race up to education for free - and let us get those pikemen and perhaps invention also (depends on how the techs go...). The war will last 15 turns (am have to do a better analysis soon, and was planning to do one this weekend).
For a better understanding of how I intend on conducting this war - see the orders I posted for the previous chat (chat 13 iirc). That is more of a wish list than anything else, but gives an idea of what I am intending.
