Anyway, why not have 2 or 3 separate campaigns? Or is that too much?

Well i'm enthused about this and have started thinking about character creation. Not sure if its legit since I haven't played before.
However I'm going to play a chaotic neutral human rogue. With Samarui tendencies. I was talking to atawa and he said something about there being a yakuza type of character but I don't know about that.

I know nothing about AD&D, but I'd like to play. I played the last one, and it was quite entertaining.

After much thought... Please keep your D&D game in the OTF for now. And also, limit yourself to ONLY TWO active threads at any given time. Let me know if you need old ones closed.
I will monitor how the game is going, and if justified, we will find a more permant place for it if warrented.
Thanks for your understanding... and even asking in the first place
|
Maybe the GM's can get together and start planning...

I just started reading this thread, but there's something I've just got to respond to.
--"I know practically nothing about Greyhawk as an example"
If you choose Greyhawk, I have the best campaign module I've ever seen, which is set in Greyhawk. It's titled Castle Greyhawk, and it is the most amusing adventure I've ever seen that wasn't homebrew.

Jon and others, you have gotten a bit too far for understanding of near-virgins such as myself and virgins such as some others. Can anyone get it a bit slower ?

Solver: we're considering playing dungeons and dragons in the same "world", but in different groups of people led by different Dungeon (or Game) Masters. The Game Masters (see voting thread) have to get together and co-ordinate their games so the worlds match up.
(did I read that question right, or did I answer something totally random?)

MattH, thanks, that pretty much explains what I was confused about.
I understood that this idea arised because of the high number of people interested, but what's the exact drawback of having one group under one GM?

I was thinking one group for ease of use... The 20+ players aren't all going to be making all the decisions... some will leave, be offline, etc... Jon proposed different groups... it could work

since we only have two threads I would suggest three groups
one for Snowfire (done by email mostly)
two with some combination of Japher/Lonestar/Victor Galis/bookwyrm

Interesting, if I had time I might be interested.
I own the First Edition of both the Players and the Gamemasters Handbook (the german Version)

I couldn't find out any reference as to how often players would play/when they 'meet'/chat etc. I might be interested, but I suggest that you link the active thread to previous inactive threads so that old information can be found out easily if it is relevant.

I'm thinking some might run in the thread and partially via e-mail and/or PMs (not every action a character takes needs to be made public).
What I was thinking of doing actually was to start everyone in a rather large tavern/inn/whatever (yes, how cliche) populated with at least 5 NPCs that have some sort of problem they wish to have taken care of, as well as some minor NPCs. Over the course of a couple real days, the PCs would make their entrance, describe their characters, etc. They would talk to the NPCs and decide which of the quests they'd be interested in (this would lead to the partition in multiple groups) and after that the individual DMs could probably go from there.
That being said, there's a lot of organization stuff that needs to happen before we get to that stage, such as deciding firmly which edition, setting, houserules, character creation rules, etc. Then creating all the characters, and helping the people who are new to this create their characters, etc.
(We might need more than 2 threads for this. Heck a whole forum would be nice, but we don't have that at the moment, and we might not need the whole forum after the business of figuring out where and how we're playing is settled.)

*newbie speaks*
So can i go about creating myself a character or do I need to wait for the DM?
Questions: I've been looking around and I guess my character needs a character sheet with stats and stuff. Does the DM assign stats?
Can I decide what weapons/armour I have?
Should I write a character background kind of thing?
I have other questions but can't remember them right now. I'll be back.
I have no skill in writing fantasy but will give it a good try. No laughing.

the GMs need to decide the setting and starting level of characters
I personally think that FR and level 1 would be good

Character creation will be done by the players with the characters then run by the DMs for approval. In general legal characters will be approved, this is just to try to catch mistakes in the char creation process (both in the character's favor and otherwise (like say you forget to assign all your skill points)). Character creation can't really start until we decide how to assign stats, how much money you get, etc.
You can start thinking of a character background and/or write it because that's really not that subject to rules or stuff like that.

So I can start thinking about my Elf Wizard character, I assume?
A question now... has anyone already decided on something about our game world?

As im new to PBE, online type roll play (played D&D loads before - but was face to face).
Do I assume I develop a Character persona / background in terms of something like this.
Character:
Dorgbeard Longshanks (Fighter) of Akinarie, born of a blood lust between rival feudining knights to unite the quarraling tribes. Trained in the art of swordsmanship by Darwield or Derberinan (Master Swordsman). On a quest to prove his valuour in order to fulfill his destiny and in serach of the keep of the fallen Knight "Dingdong"
-> Excuse the name Dingdong but twas the name of a much prized 9th level fighter I once lost in battle with a Red Dragon way back in around 1982.
