The most prevelent problem in the gay community seems to be promiscuity. Men are very sexual, so it's natural that relationships that only involve men will be plagued with infidelity and casual sex.
At least that's how most of our gay friends feel.

I don't think promiscuity in of itself is a problem particular to homosexuals, since promiscuity is rampant among heterosexuals too.
What I was stating in my initial post, is the prevelance of open-relationships among homosexuals. Is this a problem or not? Are open-relationships as healthy as monogamous relationships?
If one is promiscuous while single, going from one trick to another, but then settles down into a relationship with someone later, that really is not a problem, IMO.

I think the biggest problem in the gay community is the straight community.
And Starchild gets my vote cuz he talks to me on ICQ.

The one gay person that I've gotten to know fairly well (good guy, I worked with him and we hung out from time to time) had major depression issues, as well as issues with monogamy. The depression probably had more to do with alcoholism, though. Just my observations.

Depression is a major issue among young gays, especially those that are closeted.

The reason a lot of people find it difficult to commit to a monogamous relationship is because it requires selflessness. As I see it, the problem with promiscuity is that it's something that deprives you of an experience that can enrich your life immeasurably.

Well duh -- two wrongs do not make a right. But is promiscuity really a bad thing if one outgrows it later, and decides to settle into a real relationship? Maybe promiscuity is a normal part of an individual's development?
And I partly agree -- look at all the mammal species in which males go bonk one female after another. For some reason, with humans though, women have some sort of counter-balance to men who would normally be non-monogamous in heterosexual relationships. Or maybe that does not make any sense?
But if that is the case, then yeah, I can see why two gay men would have more difficulty in establishing a stable, monogamous relationship. But the other half of the problem, are the homophobic laws that discourage gay men from "settling down."

Or the laws that don't recognise a gay relationship as a real relationship in the first place.
