here is a map of all the systems.
http://www.carnotaurhq.com/event_horizon/eh_map.gif
some good routes are buying bioweapons at codec in codehaven and selling them at the station in lesten. With a couple pegusi, i was making three million per run. Pirates are only a problem rarely in the codec system, usually though you'll jump in with a couple destroyers in system so even if there are pirates they won't bother you.
also if you're friendly the polaris, run opals from Tre'ar illini to Tre'pirana.

Hey, thanks. Is there some table of the ships+equipment and what is available where? I couldn't find a system to buy lev.'s or pegi.

now that i think about it, i think leviathans and pegusi only become available for purchase or hire after you finish the first Sigma Shipyards mission.

Yeah, that's right, Tis. I'd forgotten about that.
You should always do the Sigma Shipyards missions, if only to open the hypergate system.

Ok, I did the first one to get the ships+ upgrades (never got them before ). Before that, I just bought a Cambrian and held down the 'b' key for a long time .
Any clue how many shipping missions I have to do before more (hypergate) missions become available? Or do I just have to wait?
Right now I'm just tooling around in a Sarbridge with about 4/5 million in upgrades, doing missions and waiting for stuff to happen. I know better than to go into the Port Kane bar

You should've gained access to the hypergate system after the very first Sigma Shipyard mission, IIRC. To test it out, just select a hypergate like you would a planet and try to land on it. If it turns on, you've got the code and are good to go.

You don't have to do that. If you hold down Option (maybe Alt on the PC?) and click the buy button, you can automatically buy the maximum amount you can carry or you can enter any amount you want. Saves a ton of time.

Aargh, why don't I know these things?
I used to be a EV/EVO expert- that's what I get when I don't play for years.
The levethian seems to be a bit expensive for a freighter. 12M credits, iirc, for 4000 tons vs. 2.5 milllion for 3500 of a cambrian. Or maybe I'm remembering the numbers wrong.

Cambrians are better, of course, but it's hard to access Polaris space in most mission strings.

What I did was rack up cash before taking on any missions. Once I had ~50 million, I bought a starbridge and added all the sigma upgrades, rebel missiles, etc. THEN I started on the missions
Now I've got to wait and pay for the game. I finally got the second "Insert coin to continue" message . Oh, well. I've got no choice.

Two mistakes nearly made me give up on this game:
- hire loads of freighters, fill them up with cargo, then lose all of them and their/your freight because you didn't quite keep enough cash to get them to the destination, so they all desert @!£$%^!
- accept the vell-os mission which means you're stuck with zero options since you can't work through the mission chain in the shareware version. (Bet they've lost a few registrations due to this dumb idea)

The Vell-os string does suck if you're un-registered, but it's awesome once you do. Winter's Heart is the coolest weapon in the game.

If they removed the Gejfon route I might actually give this a try again. I thought it was way too easy compared to it's predecesors last time I played as I recall (I did register though, partly becouse I didn't do so for EV and EVO which didn't require you to register in order to finnish the game ).
As I recall the Auroran mission string was cool though, you can get a really cool ship while playing it (though it's easy to miss).

My favorite mission string is the Federation/Bureau. You don't get a cool ship at the end, but it has the best story by far.

Can you play more than one major mission string with one character or are they all mutually exclusive?

you can download a plugin (if you're registered) that clears your pilots missions so you can keep your ship and money and do another string. But its known to cause problems...

So this version is a lot more limited if you're not registered then? I remember, in the original EV, not registering had virtually no consequence (aside from that one time I managed to take down and capture a corvette in my argosy, only to be blown up by Captain Hector almost immediately).

Yes. All the mission strings have certain points you can't get past if you aren't registered. You also can't capture ships or use plug-ins until you're registered. The capturing thing is what finally broke me down; nothing's better than doing trade runs with 6 captured Leviathans.

Trade runs are for the weak... but yeah, not even having a shot at capturing my first Auroran Cruiser was annoying. I was going to register, but I suppose I'll have to do it sooner rather than later.

Or the lazy and impatient. I'd much rather do the Gefjon run ( ) for an hour then spend hours getting credits the hard way.

Yeah, it got sooo dull just sitting and shooting things. But with this ship and 46 million, it's a snap .
Registering this week so I can continue with the missions.

I used to be able to get $100 million in an hour or two at Gefjon.

It will be a little while before I can manage that. Just traded in my terrapin for an IDA Frigate.

good run for ya'll.
Go to Codec in codehaven and buy bio-weapons
sell at Menin in Lesten. Buy equipment.
sell equipment at Europa in Sol, buy luxury goods
sell on Earth, buy medical supplies
sell at sirius II, which puts you one jump away from codec to start over again

I just rediscovered my favorite route from back in the day on EV Classic.
Industrial from Capella to Darkstar in Nemesis
Luxury Goods from Darkstar to Capella
Capella sometimes buys Luxury Goods at "Higher" prices, so you can rake in the cash.
Darkstar also sometime sells Equipment for "Lower" prices (5 credits a ton!). When that happens, you buy Equipment and take it to Luna in Sol. Not only is Luna the closest planet that buys Equipment at high, it also sometimes buys Equipment at higher. Buying for 5 and selling at 480 makes you a ton of cash.
Buy Medical Goods on Luna and take it to Capella to restart the run.

In the original EV my standard run was enter Darven system... disable all pirates, loot their ships and continue on my merry way (usually jump one system away and return). Sometimes I'll just go towards confed space, and do the same thing (except substitute 'confed' for 'pirate').
Well, almost as soon as I registered, I stumbled upon an Auroran Pegasus that was somewhere where it wasn't supposed to be and siezed it. Now I have something of an escort fleet that can carry stuff.

Argh! The Vell-os mission string is the worst mission string ever programmed. Whoever came up with that should be immmediately fired.

I beat the Vellos string yesterday. Took me about 4 hours. I also started a terraform string, and now Im trying to qualify for the Bounty Hunter Guild (I need to destroy some auroran ship) If I had had 50 million credits at the end of the first string, I could have bought the Kestrel. Now Im pretty much stuck with the Javelin.

The Vell-os string is offered too early in the game, and there's no realistic way to escape it once it's offered (I mean you can refuse it, but then you're forced into another mission string... stupid Bureau, they will all burn horribly (once I get my hands on something more powerful than an IDA frigate)).
