Asher.....
I'd like to be able to watch what I see on my computer on my TV. I know I must own a TV Tuner card. I don't know much about them, so...Which ones are higher quality, which ones aren't, what are potential pitfalls to avoid when purchasing one...
Thanks.

I'd like to know too.
I'm planning on buying one, and I hope it's possible to stream it over an 802.11b network.
I want to stream it on my laptop anywhere in the house.

No, he wants a card so he can watch television on his PC.
Hauppage and stuff makes the most common ones.
TV-in, not TV-out.

Well I just installed an example version of geForce FX 5200 that had a TV out option.
I'm not sure how 'good' it is, since I didn't test it, but I guess that most modern cards should have a rather decent TV-OUT option.

You don't need a tuner. You need SVideo out on a video card. Of course, a tuner may have that if you don't want to replace your video card.
A TV turner would allow you to watch a TV signal (cable) on you computer. Some do radio signals as well.
Asher, check out MSI TV@nywhere. I don;t play with these things, but I have heard good things about that product among all the others.

watch what I see on my computer on my TV
I interpreted that as wanting to see civ on the TV. TV out.

Siro, I have Radeons 9000pro 128megs and it gives me decent picture, even though it's not the latest card and certainly not the best. Depends how good quality Tass wants, and what he really meant.

I've heard bad things about Raedon plain capture cards (no clue about tv-in with normal cards). Check pricegrabber.com- last time I looked, they had some in the mid-$50 range.

Oh, and Pekka: I've got the exact same card. How did you get the TV turner to work ? Mine refuses to accept a signal...

Hmmm... Tuners aren't necessarily the best approach, especially if your screen is more than 15" or so, since there is often a lot of interference from the other components of your computer.
You would be further ahead using a high-quality VCR as the tuner then feeding your computer with interlaced 480i video through s-video connection. Use the Prolink capture card without tuner ($42) for this approach.
Once you buy the card, use the application DScaler, which will turn interlaced video into progressive video suitable for display on your monitor.

if you don't plan on spending that much money, by a sub-50 usd ati tv wonder ve card.
then, before you bother installing those damned ati drivers, go and download dscaler at http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net
especially if you have winxp. ati's drivers have always been crappy, but believe me, you'll never see a driver set crappier than the one they've put out for the tvwonder ve.
you don't need the drivers to use dscaler, since it works directly with the hardware.
