If the democrats would have a good charismatic leader, they could win, easily, especially if they'd point out all of the blunders of the US administration. I just don't see them having one of those.

Yeah if they had a strong leader it's certainly possible. There is a retired Army General who might be running but I can't remember his name.
I think Bush was the perfect president for our time but we probably need someone else to take us in a different direction.
Hey what about Al Sharpton?

Bush is like that girlfriend that comes into your life and teaches you something you had to figure out but she wasn't really meant to stay forever.
You appreciate all the things she's done for you but know it's not really going to work out.
He was a good man.

Hmm I thought the economy was already well on its way towards tanking. It's the budget deficit I would attack on.

That is inadequate and no the economy is not tanking. That is the problem. The economy has remained resislent and is posting modest growth rates.. should pick up to restore jobs.

I don't think Europeans understand just how much that kind of insulting cartoon can tick Americans off.
Want to help re-elect Bush?
Send as many of Bell's cartoons as you can to as many Americans as you can. I guarantee a backlash.

Lightblue, will you explain why you think it is wrong to run a moderate deficit during an economic downturn?

I am not light blue.. but I will cast further doubt on his reasoning.
A moderate deficit is not bad...
Also tax cuts during a economic slowdown (not a downturn in this case as the economy is still growing) is the best thing in the world. That is why I think the democrats have it all wrong.

And you speak for 330 million others?
I think there is way too much America bashing, and that twit Bell is leading the charge. America and anyone who agrees with America is evil and to be depicted as such? Frack him! He knows shiet, aside from his own stink, which he projects onto others.

Voters have been known to do a lot of stupid things -- so I would not be surprised if baby Bush gets reelected.
I will be disgusted, but not surprised.

It seems likely. Bush has maintained a high approval rating for a very long time, and he seems like to have a huge edge in fundraising over whoever his opponent will be. Moreover, the current field of Democratic candidates seems particularly uninspiring.

You're right, I don't get it. What is so insulting about that cartoon, especially compared to his treatment of Blair?
"Want to help re-elect Bush?"
By now, I'd say yes.

If he doesn't get a grip on Iraq within 3 months, or unemployment doesn't fall, he could have some problems.

unemployment isn't that bad. Compared to the 90's it may be. But we used to run this high of unemployment a lot.
In my city things are chugging along just fine. Of course my city is mroe resistant to recessions due to its special nature.
And we are running more than a moderate debt. We have the biggest debt we ever had. But that is okay for a short while. It doesn't indicate our economy is tanking.
Aside from the airline industry, the layoffs haven't been that bad. The airline industry is ****ed. but that is due to poor management. If these dumbasses knew how to run a copmany like Southwest airlines, they wouldn't be in this mess.
