I could never quite understand that. I study at Hull Uni, which is about 20 miles from my home village, although I stay there during the term and have very little contact with friends and family back home. But I have a few friends who desperately try and get as far from home as possible and I can't fathom why; hell, I like my home.

Uni kicks arse (which is why I am going into my 8th year ).
I could have never gone gone to uni in my hometown (aside from the fact that there's no uinversity in Luxembourg). Make some friends in hall or in societies, and you got a circle of friends.

What fun is that? Why all that hard, exhausting work? Where does it get you? What is the good of it? It is one of the strange ironies of life that those who work the hardest, who subject themselves to the strictest discipline, who give up certain pleasurable things in order to achieve a goal, are the happiest. I like my home but when I went to uni you couldn't get full financial support to move out if you were in your home town so you would have to live with your parents.
For me it was all about moving away and having a good time.

you get full financial support to live outside the uni, if you're not living at home? lemme guess, you don't pay for tuition, either.

No, not full financial support. It wasn't enough to live or even close to it but you got nothing if you were at home.
I didn't have to pay tuition when I went but they do now.

This is terrible. the government planned to drop it to something like 5000 NIS (~700 pounds) a year, but then, they raised it again, because the economy is in the crapper.
Luckily, I have my tuition paid for by the army.

College was great. In fact, my sophomore year was 3 of the best years of my life.

I thought high school was more fun.
At university you had to do things like study, read your books, turn up at all of your classes, homework, do your assignments etc etc. Such things could be (almost completely) disregarded at high school.

Took the 7 year plan. Paid for school with my own $$. I actually graduated with 35% more credit hours than I needed. Enjoy it while you can...some of the best memories of my life are from college.

I am graduating from High School next spring. I am planning to Major in Life Science Teaching and Minor in Paleontology and Political Science. Then I want to get a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology or Protistology ( the study of protozoans and algae). I like researching relationships among organisms, espececially protists, now that DNA and RNA sequencing are overturning traditional assumptions (Fungi are closely related to animals it now seems! ).
