Do you play the AU mod?
Besides AU games, how many of you play the AU mod on a regular basis?
I've started experimenting with it and I'm very impressed. I've also played the Double Your Pleasure mod which is *way* involved and *way* cool, but the AU mod appeals to me more because of how close it is to the "out-of-box" game. Yea, there are a bunch of tweaks, but each tweak is really pretty small.
So...I'm looking for a discussion on the differences between AU game-play and out-of-box game play.
Any comments?

Almost exclusively. To me, it is basically Civ3, but better.

I'm not sure I can be said to play non-scenarios on a regular basis but I play about a third of new games with the AU MOD. Another third are unmodded. The remainder are played with a succession of more experimental mods of my own generally based on the AU MOD.
Currently I'm tring to master Deity and have been playing more unmodded mostly because it's easier. I suppose that shows that it's (and my) aims are being met.
Most of the changes to the way I play with the AU Mod are reactions to the changed way the AI plays. My research path is radically altered especially in the ancient era. For instance unmodded, it makes sense to research Polytheism in 40 turns for trade but in the AU Mod, it's not worth aiming for that often because the AI puts more emphasis on it. The current AU Mod makes a 40 turn currency more inviting. The changes in aggression of the Iroquois and Babylonians make me treat them differently.
Of the unit changes, only the worse suicide galleys and slightly improved archer make a noticable diffrence normally.

I haven't played with the AU mod enough to really comment in depth on it. In fact, I've only played 1 succession game with the AU mod, and the only thing that stood out was the zero range bombard for archers.
I know there are lots more tweaks than that. I've read the readme (a while ago now) and approved of most of them in principle. But I have this psychological block when it comes to mods, so I've never actually tested the AU mod out properly, by playing several games to completion with it.

About the only time I don't play with the AU mod is when I'm giving CFC's GOTM a shot.

Nope. I've not even tested it yet.
Looking at the readme, most changes seem sensible enough, altho' playing other mods with Lethal Sea Bombard toggled for artillery units have convinced me it should be strictly reserved for one-shot-only units (CMs, basically).

I have taken several items from the AU mod and incorporated them into my own scenario rules, but no, I have never played the AU mod per se.

No, can't say that I've tried it. The only mod I've really played (read: returned to after initial play) is Double Your Pleasure.

I play standard rules. If I played MP games, I'd probably play the MP variation of the AU Mod.

About the only Civ3 I play these days are AU games. And so if the AU is able to I use the mod.
