I haven't played this for years. I used to play the boardgame (the original one with cardboard pieces). I'd play you online but I have a Mac.
I always used to like playing Japan.

Axis & Allies: Europe and Axis & Allies: Pacific kind of ruined the original A&A for me. The strategy is too simple and the gameplay too repetitive.
