Beginner's Luck PBEM
Players and play order:
Rubin - Consciousness (Rubin_Datalinks @ hotmail DOT com)
Gufnork - Pirates (perhenri @ dd DOT chalmers DOT se)
Zalek - Hive (zalek @ interia DOT pl)
jtsisyoda - University (jtscheidt @ hotmail DOT com)
AI - Data Angels (Roze)
AI - Gaians (Deirdre)
AI - Spartans (Santiago)
CMN - H0bbes jcrocombe@aardvark.net.au
Transcend difficulty, Standard map - average everything.
All victory conditions on.
Do or Die - don't restart eliminated players.
Look First.
Bell Curve - no random events.
*********************
Dreifels ruleset: http://1st-euro.com/AC/pbemrules.html is fine apart from:
6. Should read: (1) If you perform a probe team action other than to infiltrate against another player with whom you are in a truce, treaty or pact, you must inform the probed player what it was you did and what you stole/sabotaged (notify the victim of your transgression). (2) You must choose the 'declare vendetta/cancel pact' option when you perform the action, unless you have received permission in advance.
8.1-8.4 Should read: (1) You may not upgrade a particular type of unit using the design workshop, and then attack with that unit in the same turn. (2) Upgrading units with the design workshop is allowed at end of turn only. However, supply crawlers upgraded in this fashion can still be used to advance Secret Projects in the same turn. (We can omit part 2 if desired)
9.1-9.3 Should read: (1) You are not permitted to establish contact with another faction prior to having met them in-game or you have the Empath Guild. (2) Player dimplomacy is not permittet during sunspot activity. (We can omit part 2 if desired)
10 I prefer: You are not permitted to make more than one social engineering change per line, per turn (no flip-flop within turn!).
11 Should read: You may use reverse engineering except with the rover chassis from Planetary Networks.
12 delete
13 Add: You may not accept a bribe from another player's AI during council sessions.
14. Add: Renaming allowed if bug is NOT exploited.
Additional rules:
a) You are not permitted to use the 'demand withdrawal' feature against another player.
b) You may not use the F4 screen when infiltrated to change an opponent's workers to specialists.

Turn has been sent to Rubin. Good luck, contact me if there are any problems.

Unlucky?
I've played 2101 but things do not seem quite right. I've passed the turn to Gufnork, though.
I've sent an e-mail to H0bbes. We may have to restart, I don't know. Stay tuned!

Well, in the meantime I've completed an "easy-to-view" ruleset. § 6 needed a bit of rework, but it should be right now. I've sent a zipped copy to you.

Hi. I screwed up, giving Rubin a cloned faction with a few differences to the regular one. I'll redo it immediately. Gufnork, your password has been sent again, email me if you don't get it this time.

Planetfall M.Y. 2102
Version2 played and sent to Gufnork.
The year says 2102!!! This is strange! And I have a new starting position. The 1st one was MUCH better!!! Any comments H0bbes?!?
Faction is right now, though.
(Edit: Prime Function Shell Rubin Alpha-1 reports that the Cybernetic faction has made planetfall in M.Y. 2102.)

2102 is because I take a year to set passwords without moving units. Just rename the turns appropriately to keep track. The AI is therefore 1 year ahead. Starting positions were changed because I couldn't remember where they were first time around. Sorry you don't like your new home.

Atleast you don't have a IotD ready to eat your Sea colony pod and fungus on the only sensible place to place your second colony. Bah.
Turn to Zalek.

@ Rubin
I thought Beginner's Luck was GOOD luck. Of course, Zalek hasn't complained about his start.
Good luck with the interview, Zalek.

I really shouldn't complain considering my first base got double minerals. Yummy! It's my second base that had some problems wading through IotD's. He found a decent spot with an energy square at last. The fungus is seriously limiting my exploration rate however.
Forgot, 2104 or whatever it is now to Zalek.

How about my start? It isn't the best of all, but I can't be unhappy.
About my interview - it was waste of time and money.

2105 to Rubin.
University researchers have reported an outbreak of a strange disease. Citizens complain of an uncontrollable urge to play in the red, gooey fungus and make fungus-pies. Upon the break-up of the Unity, our once-great civilization has reverted to childhood...

Gufnork, try clicking the "M" just above and to the left of the small world map in the corner. I've seen messages like "Our unit X near city Y survived an attack from Z."
