They are, but unfortunately, they are mandatory in the closed Sicilian (2 Nc3), which is my variation of choice to avoid going down the "I know this obscure line of this subvariation of this variation of the Sicilian to the 23rd move, and you only know it to the 18th move, neener neener neener" path that black usually wants when black initiates the Sicilian.
Closed Sicilian is the only time I play K-side fianchettos.

BTW, just out of curiosity, what do you do against the Queens Gambit? Decline, Accept, Slav Defense, or Scots Game?

This game has the weirdest pawn structure I've ever seen.

JW - depending on the strength and inclinations of my opponents, as black against d4 I played Queen's Indian, Benko or Grunfeld, in about that order of frequency.
I never play d4 as white.
Drake - I've seen far weirder. Tripled isolated pawns, two pairs of doubled pawns on adjacent columns, two pairs of isolated doubled pawns. You name it.

I think I've got something good going as well, but it's so infrequent that I play now that I don't remember which of the voices in my head to listen to.

Chess is an oversimplification of modern day tactical warfare.
Why does it not have biological weapons? Secret agents? Nukes?

Maybe you wanna add some spells. For example "Slow" and "Frenzy".
On the game:Nice game. I hope and i think that Jaguar Warrior will win. He (She) (BTW, JW what's your gender?) have some troubles with knights but his (her) king is much safer.

Muxec, it's not about the king here... JW is in a pretty solid situation otherwise, and I'm anxious to see the next move.

Both kings are safe and sound until some blood is shed. And MtG passes up trades all the time, so it may be a while yet.

Bleah, JW, what do you use to create those images? They're terrible...
And IMHO, you just missed a good chance...

Ok, tell me at the end of the game.
I can see those images just fine, but if you want I'll use a larger board and better colors.

I know, but many times games don't even go to the point where you declare checkmate, do they?

No, but only because the side resigning sees the inevitability of it.

There are some interesting possibilities. But closed openings, open openings, doesn't matter, I come to fight.
