Just Got EU2
Yeah I know its been out for a long time but I was at the PX today and was in a buying mood and happen to see EU2 there for a mere 19.95. So I bought it. I played around with it a bit and started my first serious game as Spain. There are lots of things to get used to but I think I will be able to manage. I thought I was cruising along until Denmark decided to start pissing me off.
One question. I got a message saying that this or that country has changed religions and that all treaties were broken. But the deal was that they changed to Catholic. Wouldn't that please Spain?

Yes, it would and does (your relations to that country goes up) but the change still breaks the ongoing treaties you or any other may have with them. Could time to pick them up into your alliance.

Well, actually if they change to your religion treaties don't get broken. Were you counterreform?

Counterreform gives some damn good advantages, just please don't convert your catholic provs to counter provs. Plus the benefits of an extra slider (IIRC in v1.5) for religion can help a multi-relig. empire (Spain, Austria)

I think Heresson was talking about from a historical perspective.

I am currently playing as Castile and just conquered Grenada. Should I not try to convert them.

Castile/Spain will get events to drive out the muslims, you don't need to convert.

You should be aware that you don't have to vassalize and annex Aragon on your own. In fact, that would be stupid, as you get the vassalization by an event, and the annexation AND CB-shields later. The CB-shields are only possible to get by this. Note that it is a small possiblility(15 % for each event IIRC) that Aragon choose not to unite with you. If so, bad luck!

To my knowledge any time a country changes religion it breaks all alliances and treaties. It doesn't matter if it changes to your religion or a different religion.
Counter Reformed does seem like historical nonsense.

True, but changing the religion and later the culture of those proviences is well worth it in my opinion. It certainly lowers your stability costs.

The Catholic counter-reformation was for real, and an important force in Italian Catholic politics and art.
Check it out - it's interesting how the Catholic church turned mass and other rituals to be much more 'showy' and flamboyant in order to compete with Protestantism.

I bought EU2 when it first came out for full price but I lost the disk and decided to buy that 6 in 1 pack of Paradox's old games for $9.99 (and that was over a year ago). The problem was the company which published the 6 in 1 pack changed the exe files so that it displayed their logo in addition to Paradox's logo and this meant I couldn't play MP since it resulted in a batch sum error.
