Severe WinAmp 3 problem...
i've had winamp 3 since it came out and it worked fine until recently when every time i try to open a file and play it, winamp crashes. gets one of those famous window's error messages where when you click details it just lists off computer junk.

what can i do to fix this problem? and what could have started it?

thanks

Most people are going to tell you that Winamp2.81 is much better than Winamp3.

I'm not one of them... reinstall it. Reinstalling fixes everything (usually). Winamp 3 is better solely because of the media library capabilities.

I've gotta say that the problem is that you are using Winamp 3. Like FP said (well kinda), switch back to 2.81.

Hey, hey. Easy there Speer. I'm just saying I had a similar problem and when I reinstalled it worked.

The reinstall obviously didn't fix the problem, but it still sounds to me like you have a bad .dll file somewhere. Normally reinstalls fix those SO IT MAKES SENSE FOR ME TO TELL YOU TO REINSTALL.

Yeah, why 2.81 and not 2.91? Unless it's because the AOL stuff....? Hasn't bothered me any after I picked "no" during install.

I have 2.81 myself. All is well. Not going to mess with it.

I've had 3 for some time, but everytime I launched it, my PC would seem to be bogged down in mud or something. everything lagged unbelievably.

I am down to 2.91, and feeling great about it. Still have the other one, I just don't use it, despite the 1337 skins.

oh my god... i completely forgot how much trash winamp 2 was... you can't even list to play more than one song at a time...

**** those fancy saved playlists... i just want to make a list of songs i want to hear right then for that one time... and you can't do that with winamp 2

the main point of winamp is to listen to your music you have backed up in mp2/3 format. it has playlist features. i don't see any reason to dumb those features down for the ignorant.

I'm a little confused by your problem now. It sounds like you have manual playlist advanced checked on. Just like with Winamp 3, in Winamp 2 if you drag a bunch of files into the playlist and click play, all of them will play unless you have manual advance checked like I said.

ditch winamp 3, which is slower and bloatier, and go with winamp 2.91. 2.91 plays all the media files that 3 does, but does so faster and smoother, especially on lower-end systems.

actually DELETING then re-installing did work before i simply installed it over the old files.

now there appears to be no problems.

and busta, i'm not seeing how i attacked you... all i said was you think i'm an idiot that i didn't try that yet.

and wait so there is a way to use the winamp 3 style manual playlist for winamp 2?
