Apolyton Fantasy Premiership!
Yes, folks, it's fantasy football time again, and the best (free) online one around appears to be the premierleague.com game, address as follows...
http://fantasy.premierleague.com/
I've taken the liberty of creating an Apolyton league, the code of which to enter is Endisforever91@opl_106811
May the best team win!

I imagine there'll be a fair element of crossover.

Or, we could use a thread/threads here.

Probably better, as long as it doesn't keep getting lost. If it includes general footy gabbery it will be OK.
I won't be on for the first two weeks of matches anyway, since I will be in the UK emjoying the real thing.
Anyone on Poly support Manure?

That's where my family come from, some of whom were even alive when we last won the league. We won't mention the mackem side of the family though.
I've supported them since 1979.
I try to go whenever I'm in the UK. Haven't been for 11 years when I had to watch them struggle against such romantic sides as Port Vale and Bristol Rovers.

My mother had a ticket when United won the European Cup way back in 1968, and went to every home game throughout her teens. My uncle has been a season ticket holder as long as I can remember. I live within a few miles of Old Trafford. Glory hunter, not me.
Trivia fact: Manchester United have been the best supported team in the country every year since about 1965 bar one in the late eighties; even when they were in the old Second Divison more people watched United than any other club.

Uh... EIF.. how could anyone accuse a Newcastle supporter of being a glory hunter? ...there has to be some glory to hunt after all.

My team at this point:
Friedel
Mellberg, Lundekvam
Pires, Barry, Jensen, Scholes, Fernandes
Henry, Todorov, Beattie
Subs: Kelly, Kenna, and 2 cheap backs.
Key at this point, I think, is to find players who will play, and who can deliver the points. There are plenty of 5 and 6 and 7 point players who will not play every week. Of course, I just started last season, so I might have it wrong.

Ok, another Yank who is mostly guessing on some of these to get under budget .
My team:
Friedel
Desailly, Gallas, Southgate
Flitcroft, Solano, Fernandes, Savage
Henry, Shearer, Sheringham
Subs: Jones, Kenna, Okon, McEveley (basically cheapies aside from Kenna)

That's what I'm doing, for the most part. Guessing. You have to keep a close eye out from week to week to catch the players how are 'in form' and swap your squad around.
By the end of the season, hopefully you are 'at the top of the table' and may be speaking passable Brit.

Well if this was a World Cup competition, I wouldn't have needed to guess so much .
Last time we had one, I came in 5th, beating plenty of these Brits .

I got flukey last year and almost won. I was leading from early till about 2 or 3 weeks to go. I finished third to a dedicated Brit and his sheep of a room-mate. I'll let you guess who won.
It seems to be a tradition that people who shouldn't know much about it do well.

Yep... IIRC, Sten Sture, another Ami, won the WC league.
In the least Premiership league, I finished somewhat in the middle . Though I was laughed at for my Shearer pick, and he ended up kicking ass, giving me the last laugh (I'm a BIG Shearer fan, as Agathon knows ).

If they deliver points, they aren't bad. That is my rule.

Piss off. At least our games aren't attended by a bunch of girly accountants from London.
Real fans we are...
And the only real fans in Manchester support City.

My Team:
1: Cudicini
2: Keown
3: Fortune
4: Riise
5: Bramble
6: Pires
7: Holland
8: Gerrard
9: Redknapp
10: Henry (C)
11: Solskjaer
12: Oakes
13: Taggart
14: Rae
15: Ostenstad
I know Gerrard isn't available for Game 1... but of course, his price will go up into the 8m area in Week two.
I consider it saving 1.5m than losing a week's points from a player.
