Fair enough, but remember that player values change during the course of a season according to their performance.

Henry scores so many points because Arsenal are so ****ing one-dimensional they'd be lost without him.

So, what the **** does that have to do with anything? You still get your points.

I know, I've picked Henry too. Just a general swipe at Arsenal.

They played the most exciting football ever seen in the Premiership for most of last season, and I don't like Arsenal at all. I think it's only the loss of Viera, and no decent replacement, that cost them the title.
Of course ManU were in magnificent form at the end of the season but they still shouldn't have been allowed to catch up.

Campbell too. They missed him badly, having to play that bald French clown hurt them.

What lost them the title was their inability to beat a United side missing their entire midfield back in November. United would have been a spent force had they lost that match.

Arsenal were still ... how many points ahead of ManU in the league at that stage? They could have held on if they had played better in the following 5 months.

No, but you can lose it, and had United lost then (either the Arsenal match or the Liverpool match), they would have.

I can't see him getting much pricier than now, since presumably his value is riding on last year's superlative performance.
I expect Shearer to have an excellent year, mainly because he now has a reasonably stable team behind him. Either last season or the season before he was robbed of the scoring title on the last weekend by having two good goals disallowed.
But having said that, I couldn't afford Henry and put all the players I wanted.
My must haves are Pires and Riise, who I think will do better this season.
I suppose the best strategy is to buy a couple of fairly expensive kids who are likely to like Jenas at the start and then flog them off once the price goes up in order to assemble a lethal 3 man forward line.
I suppose I'm going to lag in the first few weeks anyway, since I haven't played this particular game before (I did play the BBC one and managed to get in the top 150 for one month).

True, but Man U are pretty good at catching up. Newcastle once completely humiliated them at the end of October but they still scraped back to win the league (although I've rarely seen a top team whupped that badly).
I think it's a two horse race again this season (Chelsea? ). However, when Taggart retires I think they'll be lucky to stay at the top - given his tyrannical management style. They could still learn some lessons from the great Liverpool era in that respect.

It's not according to performance. Player values change based on how many people buy and sell that player. So if everybody starts to buy Henry his value will go up, but if everybody sells him his value will go down.
Of course people base their buying and selling decisions mostly on players' performance, so indirectly performance does influence a player's value. But there are also other factors such as injuries, suspensions or clubs not playing or playing twice during a gameweek.

It wasn't very active though. As in, totally inactive. I think there were 5 or 6 teams in it, and no discussion.

NOTE: The season starts on the 16th of the month. You're allowed unlimited transfers up until that point, but after the games start you are only allowed one transfer per week and the prices will begin to fluctuate according to demand.
btw, my Dad got tickets to Spurs' first home game of the season ... but I can't go because it's my girlfriend's brother's wedding that day. Curses!

As to Henry and his value. Looking at the players they seem to have priced them roughly based on last years performance. Gap of 10 or so points represented by a price difference of half a million or so. There is some variation based on what team they play for as well, anyway, for the points he got last season Henry seems cheap. I think they should have put him at 15 million or so to really make you think if you should have him or not.

Seeing as this is the football thread... What is the deal with Chelski?
They have signed Bridge and Johnson (attacking wingbacks), Geremi (defensive midfielder), Duff (left winger) and now Cole and Veron (both attacking midfielders who are both probably best deployed just behind the front players).
Then they're still going after Makelele and Vieri.
Ringing endorsement of their current midfield
If (and that's a big if) the team gels, they could well challenge for the title imo.

Geremi isn't a defensive midfielder, I think they'll be playing him on the right. They didn't have many midfielders pre-season but they are going to have as many quality attacking players as most of the top squads.
What they are missing is a defensive midfielder (only Petit at the moment) and a striker. Gudjohnson and Hasselbaink are quality, Carlton Cole is very promising and Forsell is good but very underused at Chelsea.
I think them signing van Bommel is much more likely than Makalele - he's vital for Real. Frank Lampard was one of the top midfielders in the Premiership last season as well!
If they I imagine their first team might end up being:
Code:
|
Cudicini
Johnson Gallas Terry Bridge
Lampard van Bommel
Geremi Veron Duff
Gudjohnson |
Shuffle Petit in for Van Bommel if they don't sign him.

They still won't win the league, though.

I agree. They'll need a seasons experience first.
Also, reading the report of the last friendly they might put Geremi and Lampard central and stick Gronkjaer out on the right.
