Apolyton DnD - MidNight Hunt - Jon Miller
OOC thread : http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=93957
Please post only if you are taking part, if you are not, please post in the OOC thread.
In Waterdeep, South Ward, there is a tavern by the name of "The Trusty Hitch". It is well kept, but also looks well used and busy. Inside the citizens from many surrounding realms are seen engaging converse, trading rumors and information. On one side of the tavern a scantily clad, pretty Half-elf, by the name of Incana, is singing songs while a human (with blue eyes and brown hair) plays a recorder-flute. At a table, a little ways away, a plain looking, short human girl with green eyes and copper hair is watching the recorder-flute with interest.
A door opens, and in walks a scruffy looking halfling (with green eyes and brown hair). He looks arround, and seeing an empty table (near the entertainment), sits down there. The place is fairly busy and the song ends before he is served. Seeing that the other tables by him are full, Incana and the human bard walk towards the table with the halfling.
As they near, Incana adresses the halfling, "Hello, my name is Incana and I am wondering if my friend and I could sit and eat with you? We have been entertaining all evening and I can't wait to have supper."
(this is dealing with introductions of Tarna, Rags, and Ostler and will lead into the adventure)

Rags smiles brightly, "Oh yes, do please join me Miss Incana and ... friend.", he says with surprising charm for his appearance. "I have never seen a table that I could occupy all by myself, nor would I wish to, as I enjoy having company.", says the exuberant halfing. "My friends call me Rags."

"Business?", says Rags, in a probing tone, "You have business to discuss with me? By the way, you haven't met many halflings if you think there's a time when we're not hungry."
[OOC]
Thanks panag - Jon, you have a typo in the link. Here it is correctly: Apolyton ADnD reborn
Flech - assuming your question was OOC - There were certainly more people interested in the original threads, but I think Jon wants to actually get started first, and let people join as we go. This way we get some momentum going.
Okay, let's try to keep OOC discussion in the other thread.

Incana says "Excellent, I am sure that the servers will come much quicker the more of us who are here waiting to get food and drinks"
During this time the young woman with copper hair and green eyes could be seen clearly making her way towards you table. She nears as Incana speaks and addresses the bards saying (it sounds somewhat nervously)
"uhh, Hi, I was very enthralled with your song, what do you call it? uh, perhaps if I joined you the servers will come even faster?". Witha giggle she pulls out a chair and sits down.
"Oh, my name is Tarna"
(you are all speaking Common BTW, do you want me too cover the meal and proceed with introducing the adventure or do yuo want to roleplay it?)

"Welcome, Tarna. Well, we're a party now aren't we? Back home a table of four would get instant service, this is intolerable. Excuse me a sec..."
Rags stands up, and steps from his chair to atop the table. He looks about and spots a maid leaving the bar with a tray of ales.
He looks down to the table and says, "How about drinks to start - is ale okay with everyone?"
Without really waiting for a response, he holds up a hand, makes a motion with two fingers that looks like someone preparing to throw a lasso, and then points in the direction of the server's tray. Four pints of ale lift off the tray and whisk towards the table.
Rags holds out his hands to catch two of the pints and nods to the male bard, "If you wouldn't mind.", implying that he should catch the other two incoming pints.
The maid realized the change in weight in the tray and quickly sees what is happening...
"Party of four thirsty and hungry paying customers over here miss, when you have a moment." shouts Rags to her over the crowd, along with a dazzling grin.
Pints in hand, Rags steps back down, and hands one to Tarna.
"Now then, this is my first time in Waterdeep - what can you all tell me about this fine city?", he says to a (likely) surprised table.
[OOC]Rags cast Mage Hand, which is a 0-level spell with no saving throw. The target should really be one object, and I was tempted to make the tray the target, but didn't want to take the server's tray from her. I hope that's okay.[/OOC]

(I will let you do it, but only with ale (it's a psychological thing, also you can only do it with ale that weighs less than 2 lb))
The maid look startled and a bit flustered, but at Rags smile (and noticing that no one si with you), she gives a laugh and directs one of the girls who has just deposited food at a table your way.
Tarna looks exceedingly startled at Rags demonstration and accepts the ale with a suspicious look. "thanks, I guess" she says and takes a shallow sip.
Incana looks quite impressed.
"That's the way to get some attention here. I would think they would have noticed I stopped singing. Hmm, I wonder what other skills you have" she says with a speculative gleam in her eye.
(I was thinking that players might subscribe to this thread??)

A commotion erupts by the tavern entrance and slowly wends its way towards the table. A knarled dwarf appears, and, looking around impassively, settles his gaze on the party.
"Sorry ta interrupt, but there's no place left to sit except at this table. Food's not good enough here to clear a space at another table so's I'd be obliged if I could sit with you."
The dwarf sits at the table. He smells as if he hasn't bathed in weeks. The dull glint from his chainmail armor draws attention to the enormous battleaxe strapped to his back.
"Serving wench! Bring me an ale, and make it quick if you want a chance at my manhood later!" the dwarf roars, laughing raucously at his own sly wit and spraying a rotting breath across the table. "Looks like you all are up to sum adventurin'. May be you're lucky an I'll tag along. The name's Bandar. I'm sure you heard o' me."
Bandar leans back in his chair and promptly falls asleep, snoring loudly.

"Well met, Bandar.", says Rags, then adds in a low voice so those awake at the table will hear, "A bath might say the same, I think."
[OOC]
Shall we assume food is ordered and served? If you haven't immediate plans, Rags will undoubtably request some more entertainment from the bards at some point.

At the sound of his name Bandar looks around. He flashes his most winning smile at the group. A nearby patron gasps in horror and drops his mug, which tumbles to the floor with a crash. The dwarf looks again for his ale, which is conspicuously absent. The smile melts from his face and his demenor turns bleak. He reaches to his back to caress one of the halfmoons of his enormous dwarven waraxe and mutters, "Service may need a kick in the bum, keepin m' friends and me waitin'."
[OOC] More fun if we wait for Jon to have the serving maid return. I think Bandar is in desparate need of diversion to keep his mind off ale...[/ooc]

(Ostler by the way caught the ale and gave one to Incana)
Shortly after Bandar arrives at the table, the serving maid arrives. "Hello sirs, madams, would you like the evening dish? Perhaps some more Ale? Madam and Sir of course get their first on the house" she gestures to Incana and Ostler. "The dish of this evening is fish, of course, there is also onion soup if you wish?" All this time, you notice that she stays away from the end of the table that Bandar is sitting at.
(sorry about that, more will come later)

Tarna looks at Bandar with a ill-concealed look of disgust. "No, I have never heard of you before. Should I have?"
Incana meanwhile addresses Ostler in a quiet voice "While Rags seems like he will serve well for our business, he is no warrior and it might be best to have one along"

"I will try the fish, please.", Rags says to the server, after taking another swig of ale.

"Come now, Miss Tarna, you mustn't jibe Bandar like that.", Rags says with a wink and smile. He rises from his chair and walks over to Bandar.
" Everyone has heard of Bandar the Bold!, of Bandar the Brave!, of Bandar the Bane of Beasts!, of Bandar the..." Rags stops suddenly, and looks back towards Bandar. "But wait, that Bandar was a Gold Dwarf, and must be well past his first century by now!"
"Why, what we have here is a Shield Dwarf, doubtfully much older than myself. This here might be Bandar the Besotted for all we know."
Rags passes behind Bandar, making a display of looking down and then up towards the large weapon there, "Nice aXE, Bandar.", then returns to his seat.
* Rags hopes to himself that the humour goes right over Bandar's head, as intended, and tells himselft that he should take it easy on the ale, as he took a decent swig from his 50/50 flask before even entering the establishment.

The maid arrives about at the time Bandar carresses his waraxe (which is right after Rags actions). "Oh I am sorry, here is your ales and food (putting down fish and soup in front of the party members", she than darts away.
Incana is the first to finish eating (she just had soup), and she glances arround the table. "As Ostler knows, I am in a bit of trouble which I need some help with. I, ah, borrowed a broach of my father's to go to a delightful party. Unfortunately, at the party, while I was distracted it disappeared. Now I need it found as quick as possible without anyone knowing that I am the cause of it getting lost. Ostler has already agreed to get it back for me and now I am wondering if you would assist him. I have no clue how hard it will be to find it. I am afraid I can't pay you much, but maybe we can work out something that will please all of us." She than looks arround the table expentantly.

Bandar downs his ale in one giant gulp. Belching loudly, he slams the mug onto the table and wipes the back of his hand across his mouth. Doing so leaves a dark trail of dirt across the lower half of his face.
"Does not suprise me ya hadn't heard o' Bandar, what with none of ya bein' dwarves. You'll learn o' my talents soon enough." Bandar turns to Rags. "Tis a wunderful axe. I split many a skull with it."
Bandar beams and pats the blade possessively and looks around for the serving maid with a lecherous glint in his eye.
Upon hearing Incana's request, Bandar looks disinterestedly at the rest of the table. It is clear he would rather not deal with the mundane task this stranger has offered but will support his friends in whatever endeavor they choose.

"How distressing, Incana, of course I'll help you look for the broach. Naturally, I have many questions.
What does it look like?
What kind of party was it?
Who attended the party, or at least what type of people?
What was the broach affixed to - was it secure?
Is the clothing item damaged at all - torn?
Did anyone comment on the broach that evening?
When did you realize it was missing? And where were you when you did?"
* Rags realizes he's asking too many questions without waiting for answers, and asks just one more.
"And most importantly, besides losing the broach, did you have a good time at the party?"

"Perhaps the she should simply start at the beginning..."
You turn to see a slender, cloaked young woman approach from one of the darker corners of the tavern, gliding past tables and people, with a look of polite interest on her deeply tanned face.
"I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but overhear...I understand you've lost something. I've been told I'm very good at...finding things"
She stops few feet away, her ebony eyes resting for a moment on each member of the party -- lingering on rags perhaps a few moments longer than the others.
"May I sit down?"

She lights up, "so you will get it back fo rme? thanks, yes I will try and answer your questions."
She describes the Broach in great detail describing it as a leaf made out of emeralds.
"It was party, you know, drinking and debauchery." She gives a smile. That party was in North Ward at the house of Panath, who is not a great freind of mine, but an aquitance. I would say that the party had mostly bards and the like at it, it was a graduation party actually." She pauses a bit to catch her breath. "The Broach was not on anything when I lost it, I had removed it some time before. Of course many people commented on the broach, it is a good deal nicer than anything I have worn before. When I was going to put it back on, I realised that it was missing. Of course I had a great time", she says with a wink.

"The price of a seat is only your name, dear Miss.", says Rags to the newcomer.
"Interesting. Hmm.
Why had you removed the broach, and where did you put it? Who was graduating, and from what?"

"I set it down in one of the rooms. Oh, Borton was graduating, from the Bard college of course. What you have not heard of it?" and than she goes on to tell about the college (which is on Waterdeep Mountain) and how it is a much better place to study than that place in silverymoon.

"Morganna" says the newcomer, with a faint smile.
She slips easily into a place next to the dwarf (seemingly unaware or uncaring of the odor), setting a cup of mead on the table and placing a backpack and quarterstaff on the floor next to her. As she sits, you catch a glimpse of black studded leather armor under her cloak. Her straight, dark brown hair is pulled back loosely in a pony tail.
"Please, continue."
(I'm going to bed now, so she'll just nod and follow along for now)

"Well met, Morganna. That is Bandar next to you, this is Incana, Ostler, and Tarna.", says Rags, motioning to each person at the table in turn. "My friends call me Rags."
"Incana, my dear, I hope you forgive me if I think you a tad foolish to set down something valuable in the midst of a debaucherous Bard celebration, which no doubt also included the type of people that some Bards envy for their non-musical skills, if you know who I mean."
"So this Panath is no close friend of yours - would you have difficulty regaining entry to the home for a quick search?"

"I can get us in!" blusters Bandar, clearly out of his league in this conversation. "I never had a door me axe couldn' open!" He gives his most winning smile, then erupts into laughter at his own subtle humor.
