How fast do you read a book you like?
Simple question: how long does it ussually take you to read a book you like? Do you read it in as few sittings a possible, ro do you read little bits of it over time?
I myself, like to finish a story I like as soon as possible. so, if I have a long time free, I ususaly read a book in one afternoon or so, depending on the subject matter, and how easy it is to digest.
For example, being jobless, i decided to take the say of to read the new Harry Potter today. It took me from 11 am to 10 pm (with a few breaks, about 1.5 hours in totla of breaks) to finish it.

I took about three days of Harry Potter to read .
I'm strange, I like to read with my lips moving, barely above a quiet whisper, so I hear the story (kinda) as well as read it.

Using the base of a 1000 paged book...
If I REALLY like it: 5 hours.
I I like it: 8 hours.
If I moderately like it: 10 hours.
If I'm neutral: A day.
If I moderately dislike it: 3 days. (I know, big jump)
If I dislike it: 5 days.
If I HATE it: 7 days.
Luckily, I like reading most books.

I'm not an avid reader, but I finished Al Franken's "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" in about 4 days.

I like reading books in as little time as possible as well. I just find them incredibly hard to put down.

Nothing will ever replace the experience of a vicarious afternoon and the thrill of turning the next page.

I prefer to read on the computer. Mostly because I hate turning pages, reading words that are in the spine of the book, being unable to relax, etc etc....

How do you relax sitting in front of a computer screen with the glare?

Books are usually better than anything on the radio, television (well, when it isn't baseball season ), or the internet.

Tass, man you're a fast reader? 1000 pages in 5 hours? Out of my league!
If I really really like the book, I'll read in one day. If it's less than 400 pages. If I have the whole day off and nothing else to do that is. The book has to really catch me though.. but sometimes it happens.

The fastest I've read (and comprehended what I read) that I've measured was 200+ pages in 3 hours or a little over a page a minute of a-little-smaller-than newspaper print font size. I know I can read (and comprehend what I've read) a bit faster than that, but I haven't measured it in a long time. I'll have to dig out my copy of Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy (plus the prequel and sequel books) and time myself again. That's pretty close to 1500 pages worth of ing...

1000 pages / 5 hours = 200 pages an hour
200 pages / 60 minutes = 3.33... pages a minute
Tass, reading that fast...how much do you ACTUALLY understand of what you've read?

Tassadar doesn't read, the Party straps him to a chair, tapes his eyes open, and displays the text in optical viewers that look like VR sets.

Generally I average out a little over 100pgs/hr on books that are fairly complex, but that usually slows down if I like a book.

Maybe I've miscalculated
I usually understand the book pretty well. But given your calculations...I'm probably off by quite a bit

Took a test, and I read at 437 words per minute....I would rate this as a pretty neutral document.

I got 470 wpm; light skimming (numbers and equations make my eyes glaze over). If the subject matter were a little more interesting (fictional reading as opposed to statistics and educational info) then I'd probably do better, otherwise seems about right.

To me the material makes a huge difference, and not as much whether I like it or not (If I dont like it, I won;t read much of it period, unless assgined).
I could hardy read 100 pages of Kant as fast as 100 pages of Asimov.
