Will the Soviet Union rise again from the ashes of democracy?
Seems it's ungovernable, run by organized crime...
Shortages everywhere, so many people have lost everything.
How long before the people have had enough and it's 1917 all over again?

Well.. there are definitely certain elements that wants it back, but I think the democracy loving people still are more, even when it hasn't been roses and champagne yet. Just like when they tried that coup.. but Yeltsin stood up and rallied up people on the top of that tank.. it shows a lot of heart.
Also when Yeltsin was sick all the time and drunk the other half, and he was going against some communist guy.. it looked like they had only bad choices, but they didn't want communism even then. I believe Russia is rising from the gutter, slowly but it will rise, and as a democracy. And when they finally have steady country and economy, they'll give back Karelia. Or then they are no better than commies.

Re: Will the Soviet Union rise again from the ashes of democracy?
I think that the Soviet Union will rise again sometime however I do not think it will be like old.
I do believe it will be a democracy, however I also believe it will be communist (Or at best, socialist). I think the Russian people have learned from the Soviet Unions past mistakes.
Inevitably however, there will be someone to challenge this. Hopefully when that time comes, the Russian people remain steadfast in their quest to democracy and do not let this future capitalist pigdog to turn the "Novaya Sovietskii Soyuz" into a despotism.

Not bloody likely. Anyways, my republic of birth wouldn't join voluntarily in a thousand years, and neither would Lithuania and Estonia.

How would that be any different from the way they joined the first time?

The "Soviet" part might* come back, but the "Union" is dead unless Russia starts rolling the tanks across Ukraine, Lithuania, etc.
*But very unlikely, imho. At least as a Communist country.

I doubt the Communist Party is going to rise up. I do suspect some sort of Socialist Democracy movement is possible, but then again, I'm speaking entirely out of my ass because I don't know what life is like in Russia (as many 'Poly members don't either )

The Communist Party still has quite a base in Russia, though (obviously) not as big as it used to be.
However, many Russians are displeased with capitalism, and wish to bring back at least socialism (which I would support.).
And then we can take Helsinki. And Vilnius. And Warsaw.

DinoDoc, aren't LL&E NATO countries? That might give the Sovs pause. However, with half the population of some of these countries being Russians, I'd guess the Russians could snap their fingers and have a civil war.
Pekka, Comrade Tass, optimists don't make for good boogy man discussions.
St Leo, do you mean that they would fight? Ugg.
The diplomat...
JohnT, even without these countries the Sovs would have the largest country, endless recourses, and no restive populations other than the Chechans, which they could stomp on without the press freedoms...

Well why didn't you? It's worth of dying to the last man? I don't think so. If you want it.. come and get it
We will never be happy of wrongful aggression. You never even got to Helsinki. Besides, if we wanted to, we could have advanced a lot further, cut the supply routes and take other cities close by as well. Would have been very nice after that in eastern front against Germans. It is you who should be thankful. History will judge you.

Sava, someone good with photoshop should put his face in a chopper, flying all around the area and threatnign to kill both Finns for celebrating socialism and Russians for communism, with some old Junta insignias in the chopper?
I see this picture will get worked many times until this is over..
