MtG just took me, so according to SR's chart that leaves me me zorbop and muxec. While I'm waiting, do you want a practice match, OPD, or are you waiting for something more official?

zorbop and muxec are MIA for a while now. It's been over a week since my last move in my game against zorbop. And just after I recovered a winning position after moronically hanging a piece when I was a piece for a pawn ahead.

Sorry, I didn't see your question earlier. Didn't intend to ignore it. It's the Russian actor, chanson writer and singer Vladimir Vysotsky. He died 1980.

Gotta love his songs. And, of course, "Ìåñòî âñòðå÷è èçìåíèòü íåëüçÿ".
So, I've been following the competition games for a while here, and that incited in me quite a bit of interest in the game again. So, I downloaded WinBoard with GNU chess and found out that I get my ass handed to me on a plate every time. In fact, I was about to post a thread similar to the "Why do I s*ck at chess?" one. And any way, I was wondering: maybe some other chess-n00b would like to play, and then those of you experienced folks would pick our games apart, and point out the weaknesses, and good moves, and such? Anybody interested?

Now where is zorbop? We can't wait endless, especially since he disappeared without warning or explanation. If we're playing full groups, it needs some discipline to keep the thing running. Unfortunately, I don't see how we can enforce this. Ideas, anyone?

He's in high school, IIRC, and said he'd have less time online now that school started.
That means presumably he's under the parental yoke.
After screwing up like a newbie and donating a piece back to him, I regained a winning rook ending my last move, so it wouldn't take to long to finish.

Just say that the guy that did not show up resigned by not showing up and the person who played him won.

It's more of a question of agreeing on a pace of play and maximum unaccepted absence. We've been real informal so far.

I just checked out your game. That was quite newbish. Too bad it wasn't in our game. Then it would have some effect.
I hung a piece in my game vs muxec. You're in good company.

After he dropped the bishop in the pawn roll, I started playing like it was a five minute game.
After my rude awakening, I clamped back down, but it should have been a tough ending regardless. Losing the d pawn the way he's about to reads out as a win for white to me, though, because he isolated his king an extra file, and I come out with first check on any same-move queening positions.
Thank God for Smyslov's Rook Endings, even though I no longer have it.

I saw this thread too late I guess.
Too late to join the ongoing tournament.
I have no pair.
But I'd like to play.

There's a second group of six that needs one more member. Tomorrow or Tuesday by the latest I'll come up with pairings for that group, minus whover is next to show up.
Once the pairings are done, then there's no particular worry about which order the games are done in.

muxec, I think I still have a game with you. Not that it matters in my situation, but what was decided about zorbop? Are we just going to forfeit his remaining games? He hasn't completed any games yet and has only started two. Instead of forfeiture in this case, why not bring in another player? If I'm going to chalk up a win, I'd like to think I earned it.

Dammit, there's an Apolyton Interzonals going on and I've very nearly missed the boat. I'm obsessed with chess; I need to be a part of this. Don't make me employ the Mikhail Tal boggle-eyed stare.

Hey Marid, long time! How's everything with you?
You fill out our second group, IIRC.

We need one to fill up our 1st group as well. We could just replace zorbop by somebody else, as Harry Seldon suggested.

Everything's alright Michael, give or take a life shift along a fault line, or two, or trey...you can take the boy out of Apolyton but you can never take the Apolyton out of the boy, so it seems. I might even update the creaky SMAC FAQ.
Any spot is fine for me. I'll even play on board three and silently put up with it, otherwise known as pulling a Nigel Short. As long as I don't get into a Lucena position with you Michael, I think I'll be alright.

Zorbop hasn't finished any game yet.
If you agree, I'll take his place in the first championship group (including the games started by zorbop).
Zorbop can join the second group once he comes back.

I defer my vote to either SR or MtG. They've been the two main organizing forces the past couple of weeks, no offence to muxec, of course.
