Demo Game Restart: Number of opposing civilisations
Poll two to restart the game. Now we have to choose the other parameter that we are sure slowed down our last attempt to play: the number of civilisations in the world.
There will need to be another poll once this is completed. There are several options here - vote for a number range, and the winning range will be repolled for the exact number of civs. For example if you wanted 15 civs in the game in this poll youw ould vote for the range that included 15 - in this case you vote 11-15. If this option wins, then the next poll would have options to vote for 11, 12, 13, 14 or 15 civs, and you would vote for 15 in this one.
5 day poll, then 5 days more to poll on the exact number. This gives time for the map to be made up after the size poll ends and a full week before September for elections of the Cabinet to kick off our restart!

6 or 8 civs. To speed up map and tech whoring so that this game is after right after C3C is released so we can play a Conquest.

Togas and I already started to work on a Large Map (130 x 130) for 16 civs in total. This means that if you choose that option, and I think it'll be workable in terms of speed, we can start up the game quite soon.
Also, 16 civs means there will be great strategic opportunities.

Hum, couldn't it easily be down sized to 12 civs by just throwing away every 4th civ?

We could do that, but it'll take away much of the fun.
Panag: Many people feel that the huge map 160 x 160 is partly responsible for the slow progress.
Sizing down from huge to large and from 24 to 16 civs will make performance lots better.

Yes, I liked the crowded feel. A smaller map that is just as crowded will suit nicely.

It ISN'T a huge map thay slows down the game.
The maps size had virtually no effect, its the number of cities and units that kill the memory, not the map size. If you play a huge map with LOTS of water it just provides more naval room. If you keep the city number limit small it creates large spaces of unclaimed land between civs.

Early game, the most singificant factor on # of units is the number of Civs, but evenually (after pretty much all land settled) it's the size of the land area.

hi ,
its people and the comps the use , ......
even suppercomps run slow when 10+ programs are open , low ram , no defrag , firewall , etc , .....
if some people play faster then others with " lower specs " then you know its the people behind the comp who are to blame , .....
have a nice day
