I only read books that are considered classic, although I don't always like them (Will Faulkner). It usually means the writer knows what they were doing or was interesting enough to make a lasting impression on people.
|
Interesting. When picking a (fiction) book, I simply look at the subject matter - if it sounds interesting, I pick it up, and if I enjoy the book, I look for others by the same author. That is, I'm more interested in MY interests and MY likes/dislikes than those of other people, even those considered "experts".

Naw, it's gotta be more than that. Your comment was unprovoked, out of nowhere, obviously meant to antagonize, and, well, "ridiculous."
|
I'm just giving you my summation of some of the movies on the list, just like you felt a need to rag on "Matrix".

Well, I guess you have to find people to consult who think like you. Jane Austen is my favorite author, so, well, I guess I think like your fake experts.

Ahhhhhh.
Glad to be so unpredictable. Did you see my choices in the "movies you secretly watch" thread? Beauty and the Beast and The English Patient were on my list... two other films that aren't exactly aimed at the testosterone set.

Do your smilies mean that you forgive me for all the old ugliness of the past? I always get hurt when people criticize me, even if I just act like I'm mad. sigh.... I'm so misunderstood.... Hey, we need a dramatic smiley.

Ugliness? You mean our argument of 5 months, 12 days, and 14 hours ago? I'd forgotten all about that...
But seriously, there's nothing to forgive. We just debated, that's all - there's nothing personal about it.

I think Frozzy's point is that he counted only the original votes, not the amended ones. Changing votes was a means of manipulating the system.
|
My change was only in response to others who gave all 10 of their votes to one movie, a manipulation I and others complained about and Frozzy ignored - so he invalidated his own poll by not enforcing his own rule of "dividing" up 10 points among favorite movies and then by not counting a movie that qualified for the second round using the rules he allowed.
Anyway, I still vote for Patton and since that movie did win something like 8 Academy Awards I feel justified.
Fight Club Wtf are you people thinking?

Please quote me where he specifically mentioned that one had to nominate multiple movies*.
Oh? He didn't? So what are you *****ing and moaning about?

I chose 1 movie. I had 10 points. 10/1=10. See?

To "divide" points up presumes there are at least 2 receiving points. As for 10/1 = 10, what second pick did you give 1 point? Even the example he gave was 3 movies receiving a total of 10 points, not 1 movie getting 10.
Try 10/0 = manipulation Anyway, I changed my vote once I saw he didn't mean for us to take "divide" literally so he should have counted my 10 points toward PATTON

10/1 = 10 means 10 divided by 1 equals 10
Divided by 1 is the same as divided by 5, given the context of the post.

Need I remind you of the non-bold text that mentions that the movies are of their choice? Or did you not catch that?
Btw, 1 movie != 0 movies. Unless this is that crazy "New Math" that the schools are teaching you young punks.

No it doesn't. As any 3rd grader can tell you, it is possible to divide by 1, believe it or not.

In algebra it is useful to divide by one.
x * 4/6
x/1 * 4/6

See? Even higher order math allows you to divide by one. We're on the cutting edge of mathematical theory, Berz, thereby allowing us to render any internet poll meaningless with our "divide by 1" tactic.

Problem: Jack has $99 to share between himself and two friends. How much does Jack get?
$99/3 people = $33/1 person or $33 per person
Suppose Jack's two friends go home, and Jack is still to divide the $99.
$99/1 person = $99.
Ergo, Every number is x/1 = x

I thought that MOVIES with an "S" at the end was a pretty good indication that there needed to be more than one.
But then again, i guess you would have given 10 points to # 1 and 0 to # 2?

I am Jack's supercillious denominator.
Go Fight Club! Sure Chinatown, Casablanca and The Godfather are great, but they're not going to win, as too much of the forum seems to have been born in the 1990s. As for The Matrix, I was completely underwhelmed. Not only is it nothing special, its not even in the top 5 films starring the oh so wooden Keanu Reeves.

Born in the 1990s? I thought that this forum had a minimum age due to the high percentage of psychopaths using it.
