Kaak, that is seriously expensive looking thing. It looks very nice, at least from the outside.

I have a new suggestion. Go to Mexico, and buy cocaine with all your money. That is heart stopping action, you can get killed at all times. Next phase is to get it across the border. You can use the help of your SO, as I think you can not store this amount of cocaine yourself .
Then if you make it... well there's your investment!
It has it all, the investment, foreign countries and sights, action and excitment.

How about Hong Kong? What's there?

Lots of computer stores with lots of "demo" games for sale.
Weatherwise, September isn't the best time to visit, but the deals are good.
You can get a flight from Calgary and three night hotel for about C$1,000 - $1,300. See:
http://www.discoverhongkong.com/cana...es/index.jhtml
or
http://www.destina.ca/cgi-bin/destin...age=/index.jsp
Travelling would take up another two days.
I would use the remaining five days to go to Bali. It's super cheap there. Flight would be about $400-$500 from Hong Kong. A good hotel will run about C$70 a day. The beaches are amazing. That would be perfect you.

Shooting tigers on the serengetti plain would certainly be a unique opportunity.

FrustratedPoet, are you trying to say there are no tigers in there, or that it's forbidden to shoot them? Either way I'd demand the opportunity to shoot them, because that's what I signed in for. If it's not allowed, the guide just hast to cooperate, I'm going to shoot some and that's that.
If there are no tigers, then the guide can paint some lions or other big cats to look a little bit like tigers, send them to my way as I shoot them from the car. Either way, I'm going to get some.

Yes, there aren't any tigers there. It's strictly Lion/Leopard/Cheetah country.
Tigers are jungle animals, not savannah animals.
A load of lions and a big pot of orange paint should do the trick though. That would one hell of an adventure holiday!

I'm sorry! But I did ask the question first, if there was no tigers at all.
Listen lions, tigers, crocodiles, zeebras.. I don't care, as long as I can smell the powder and I get some action .

Well, I would go to any of the following places:
Paris
Buenos Aires
Thailand
Australia/New Zealand
Caribbean Island/cruise
Costa Rica
About a dozen other European locations, including Prague, Rome, Berlin, Amsterdam, etc.

Go to Europe. You can do that pretty cheap with no planning. Just get a train pass and you're set. Plus, with all the helpful Apolytoners out there you may be able to see some of the best non tourist places on the continent.

Are you people nuts?
Toronto is a hellhole of a city, have you guys ever been there?
Overcrowded, polluted, and all-around boring.

If you think Toronto is polluted, what do you think of places like NYC, LA, Dallas, or Atlanta (all US)?

Polluted as well?
I live in a major city with exceptionally clean air, and I like it that way.
People in Toronto, NYC, LA, Dallas, and Atlanta are probably used to that crap.

$5,500 should go quite a ways... though the short notice thing hurts.
My friends just got back from a month in Africa (climbed Mt. Kilamangaro, did the Serengetti, yes my spelling is awful this morning and I can't be arsed) and it cost them more than $5k per person, but that's for a month.
But somehow I doubt Asher wants that. Why not Japan? I'd say Australia or NZ, but 10 days is a bit short for that...
