Just because Texas is an outcast that the Eastern or Western interconnect wouldn't let in, doesn't mean it's a seperate nation.

The lights flickered briefly at work (Hartford) yesterday, and a couple of the computer systems went down for a couple of minutes, but that was it.
I went to happy hour(s), and by the time I got home (9:45), the power was on there (Middletown), though the clocks were blinking.

CNN reports Staten Island has power, as well as parts of Westchester and the Bronx, parts of west Brooklyn, and parts of Midtown.
Most of Northern NJ is reported to have power restored.
Eastern Ontario (Ottawa?) restored, parts of Toronto.
Much of upstate New York restored.
Still no power in most of Cleveland, Detroit, Lansing, Ann Arbor. Water restored, to limited degree, in Cleveland.
Anyone here in places where power was lost, but now restored? How has it been?

As you point out, Cleveland got a dose of double trouble, with the water situation.

ABC now says power back on in most of Cleveland. Any Clevelanders here?

Just got out of bed a little while ago. Lansing Board of Water & Light, the main utility for the Lansing-East Lansing area, is reporting that power has been restored to their entire service area. But they're urging people to limit their air conditioning use and continue to conserve water to allow the reservoir to build back up.
Here in East Lansing the street lights came back at around 12:30am EDT and about an hour later service was at least restored to the area around where I live (about a mile north of campus).
Yesterday wasn't so bad. Fortunately Michigan State has its own power plant, so all the campus buildings were still up and running. I ended up spending a few hours at the library, staying cool, and checking email and surfing the Web (and Poly of course! ).
Today's supposed to be just as hot as yesterday (upper 80s). It's already up to 82. Hopefully we don't end up in the dark again.

Corporate Security just announced that they are shutting off a bunch of lights in response to the request from NE Utilities to cut down on power use.

This is the difference between Americans and Canadians, and being different doesn't mean one is better than the other.
Canadians would say it is completely inexcusable to forcibly hang up a phone that someone else is using. It's just wrong. Americans take a more me, me, me attitude. I have to use the telephone and I have a god given right to use it right now so get out of the way.
Or put another way, can you imagine an American saying "We're being polite, this is the United States, you know."
I can't, well actually I can imagine an American saying it with the tone of voice that's say you goddamn *******, we're ****ing being polite, this is the United ****ing States and if you can't fucxing behave then go back to wherever you came from.

Tingkai is right. Americans are as well behaved as a pair of cats in a burlap sack.

Cool down your holyness. Not every Canadian thinks like you do. And a lot of us would do the exact same thing under the same circumstances.

Arrian! Don't prove those D1ckwads right! WE all know that Americans are the most polite and benevolent people on the planet, but to start bashing stupid Canadians would just be falling into their lame excuse for a trap to get us to stoop to their slime covered level of incompetence, stupidity, and drunkeness...

My part of Toronto just came back up at 1:15edt, but we have been warned of the possibility of rolling blackouts.
Quite entertaining yesterday - I was driving downtown when it hit. First thing I noticed was radio stations dropping off the air. And then when I got off the freeway, no traffic lights, no transit running. Major traffic slowdowns. And lots of emergency vehicles on the move. And phones went down from the overload.
So - what does one do - find a bar and start drinking before the beer gets warm. I didn't bother trying to get home until much later. (after a long period of non-drinking, fyi )
Very eerie driving through a city like Toronto, and only a few lights on. And very quiet.
And - no work today!
All in all, the city handled it well. No stories of looting or chaos. Actually, lots of stories of folks doing traffic cop duties to help keep traffic flowing. Pretty calm all considered given the extent of the blackout.
Welcome to the 21st century.

And regarding this American-Canadian flare up in this thread, what is of note given the current situation, is that the major reason given for the extent of the blackout is the 'inter-connectedness' of the power grids in both countries.
We are joined at the hip in more ways than one.
