Prior to exchanging off the queens, you were actually at least equal, if not a little better. Depending on the line played, the Falkbeer makes things hairy for white due to exposed king. I like the KG for it's relative rarity and psychological effect.

There's at least three decent books on it published in the last 20 years or so - you might be able to get a deal on a used version of any of them through amazon.com or abebooks.com It's a good opening to know well precisely because few players know how to handle it.

I think it is standard to record captures with a piece by (piece)x(square), instead of the shorthand way for pawn captures by a pawn. I was following the game, and was amazed to see a budding endgame (albeit a one-sided one) with no captures recorded.
